My name is Kafayat "Kayk" Tanimowo and as a politically active teen, my contribution to ACORN's Young Urban Voters is this webpage so that I can help attract other people specifically young teens to get involved with there local politics because the decisions that we should be making are being made for us which have to stop. So SPEAK UP, GET UP and MAKE CHANGES!! ACORN LAUNCHES YOUNG URBAN VOTE WEBSITE In the year 2006, ACORN registered and mobilized thousands of young voters in the state of Michigan. In an effort to continue mobilizing young voters in the Detroit and Flint Metropolitan areas, Michigan ACORN has established the Young Urban Vote (YUV) collective. YUV's mission is to cultivate civic leadership and challenge young adults to make voting and democracy a cultural responsibilty. In 2007, YUV will focus on getting young voters motivated and involved in local elections, while gearing up to impact the 2008 presidential election. Through leadership training, 'get out the vote' efforts, and community organizing around events that attract young voters, YUV is more than just an opportunity to join another political organizataion; is also gives young people the opportunity to meet and network with other young voters in the community. If you are young and politically conscious, join us as we sponser events like poetry slams, concerts, basketball, and Texas Hold 'em tournaments. You will have the chance to express your views to legislators, help enlighten and motivate young voters, become a leader, and make a real change in your community.
