He has been writing lyrics and performing since1995. In late 96, Ismail moved to the Silicon Valley in California for a year. He also lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for almost 3 years. These movements expanded Ismail’s horizons, thus made him wiser, and enhanced his lyrical abilities to rhyme with or against anyone fast or slow. It also helped him see that Newark wasn’t the only society suffering from poverty, and other problems that harbor an average city. Now residing in Hickory, North Carolina (since August 99), this artist has improved his writing talents. Always humble and charismatic, these characteristics are believed to have helped him in his early years as well as now. Through a reliable source, 12 Gage is now recording at “Khaz Cribb Entertainment,” after running into several other underground producers. When asking the poet/rapper about the name “12 Gage” he replies, “The sound of a twelve gauge shotgun is very loud to the ear. I intend to be the same way, but with knowledge, and street glory to startle the eardrum; therefore awakening the mind.” Hmmmm…. Promising indeed.Effective 09/30/03. The artist formerly known as 12 Gage is now going by the name Ismail. When asked about the sudden change, the hip- hop artist had this to say, “It was time for a change. Ismail is my first name, and it means so many great things. Plus my name is involved in many cultures. Not only did I use “12 Gage” as a rap name, from the door it was about knowledge, but never the less it was used for attention. I just got tired of it.” One of my best records “Is it Worth It Prt. 2 (The Response) only touched on partying and having sexual relations with women. There isn’t anything wrong with that, but there is a time and place for everything.
