Influences: too many to list.mojo quizas if i were famous........What music are you currently grooving to?Well at this very moment, Muddy Waters 'Mad Love', I may well cover this at some point, it has all the aspects of desperation mingled with whiskyful blues that i wish i could imitate when sober, or drunk for that matter. Anything on Chess or Stax, also PJ Harvey, Karen Dalton, Rikie Lee Jones, Cat Power and Holly Golightly. What, if push comes to shove, is your all time favourite album?I cant do it, there is no way i can pick an all time favourite. Off the top of my head, right now, though. David Bowie 'Hunky Dory'.What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?Madonna's immaculate collection, on tape, for about 3 pounds, in about 1990.... oh yeah in woolworths. My Irish friend loved her and I did too much to my dad's dispair, not as a religious man but as a music lover.Which musician, other than yourself, have yu ever wanted to be?Tom waits, I wish I was him, he has an album for every occassion, and to my knowledge, he is the only muscician to have made it through the 8os and out the other side without making a bad album. But maybe I wouldn't want to be a man....... hmmm. Well maybe, um, patti smith, or, PJ harvey, or, Nina Simone. I think its a shame that there are so few female equivalents to Dylan and Waits... a real shame. What do you sing in the shower?Hallelujah, any Leonard Cohen really, Liberation Conversation by Marlena Shaw also california soul, Sally Go Round the Roses by the Jaynettes and Holly Golightly. I prefer singing while doing the washing up, Going back home and take me to the water by nina Simone, and That Lucky Old Sun by Johnny Cash but I actually sing the Ray Charles version. I like the work song vibe of That lucky old sun, I've just bought a collection of Alan Lomax's which is all prison songs, excellent stuff. What is your favourit saturday night record? At the moment Slipped and Tripped by The Sweet Inspirations 'He Bite Me' by the Meters. Both have this beautiful syncopated beat that is part funk but mostly Just New Orleans. I love also Lee Dorsey, but then also some rock like the White Stripes or Led Zepellin, The Flaming Lips also. Its all just great depends where your going what you want to listen to.And your favourite Sunday morning record?New Morning by Bob Dylan, its so happy and nice and unlike bob. I also love in a Silent Way by Miles Davis, the perfect thing to listen to whilst lying in bed and thinking about getting up to get an ashtray.x
