Magic Rocker released his debut CD, Restored My Soul on September 8, 2001 on the label Toonga Records. Since then his album has been widely received in the reggae industry as an innovative, important contribution to the modern reggae scene. In February 2002, Restored My Soul was awarded Best Reggae CD/Album of the Year from the 21st Annual Chicago Music Awards, and Magic Rocker was nominated for Best African Entertainer. He has also just been nominated for Best African Entertainer in the 2002 Chicago Music Awards. Since its release, Restored My Soul has been getting regular airplay on reggae stations across the globe, from Ireland to Turkey, Australia to Ghana, the United States to Colombia. Restored My Soul was rated 1 on the deejays charts for July 2002 by Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide (RAW), an international reggae union.Magic Rocker started out as a deejay in Chicago area clubs, quickly gaining popularity and continuing on to deejay in Cincinnati, Dallas, Indianapolis, New York and Washington DC. He also made a name for himself on Chicago’s Channel 19 both as a veejay on Reggae Riddims, and as a deejay on a children’s show called Elma & Company, which won him an award for Outstanding Deejay in 2001. With this introduction to the industry, he soon started composing his own music and lyrics. By 1998 he had compiled enough songs for his first CD, and was preparing for the release when his mother passed away. Distraught, he shelved the project and two years later, emerged with an entirely new CD, Restored My Soul, driven by soul-searching, spiritual and socially-conscious material. He released this new CD on his own label, Toonga Records, established in 2001. The first effort, titled Back To My Roots is expected to be released later this year.Joining Magic recently is his newly-formed band featuring Chicago artists Mitch Corso on lead guitar, Jimmy Binder on bass, Brian Sansom on drums, Nancy Wiersma and Saskia Pretorius on vocals.
