Montse Massaguer Pianist

About Me

Montse Massaguer was born in Girona, Spain. She started her studies at the age of eigth with Rosa Ma. Ciurana. She finishes her piano diploma at the Conservatory of Badalona (Barcelona) with the pianist Eulàlia Solé. Afterwards she continued her studies with Nina Svetlanova at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she gets her Master of Perfomance. She was awarded in 1989 Second Prize at the Third Piano Competition “ Premi Ciutat de Berga” In 1990 she was selected to represent Catalunya at the First Conferenza Sulle Attivita Musicali Sicilia-Catalunya with a Trio ensemble, performing first world compositions from catalan composers. She has been granted, among others, by Joventuts Musicals from Girona, by the the National Institution of Scenic Arts and Music, by the Catalan Goverment and by the Mannes School of Music from New York. She played as a solist with the “ Da Camera” orquestra performing Beethoven’s 2nd piano concerto and cooperated with different instrumental ensembles such as the Manhattan Contemporary Ensemble and The Boris Vian Foundation Ensemble. She shows special interest on women composers and she performs main of their during the scenic lectures “ Cartografies del desig I and II” held in Barcelona, publishing a book and CD with the cooperation of the publishing house Proa and Anacrusi CD company. She received lessons, among others, from Luiz de Moura Castro, Peter Eicher, Josep Ma. Colom, Jean Pierre Dupuy and Maria Joao Pires. She worked the vocal repertoire with Paul Schilawsky, Donald Nold and Wolfram Rieger. As a solist she has performed all over Spain in main Festivals such as “Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada”, “Festival d’Estiu del Grec de Barcelona”, “Festival Internacional Castell de Peralada”, “Quinzena ;Muscial de San Sebastián”, “Festival Internacional de Santander”, “Festival Internacional de Sevilla” and “Festival Internacional de Torroella de Montgrí”. She has recorded for T.V. Alhambra, Radio Nacional de España, Catalunya Radio and RAI. She works regulary with the mezzo soprano Titon Frauca. They recorded together the CD “ The music of the flowers” sponsored by Girona’s City Council which includes music from today’s secene composers and the whole work for voice and piano by Frederic Mompou.
