This is an annual two-day acoustic festival that features some of the best up-and-coming songwriting talent in the city. All proceeds go to a children's education charity (www.jaideechildrensfund.org) that helps children in Laos & India! This event features a silent auction and great door prizes. Saturday's evening event is for adult music lovers, Sunday's afternoon event is for young music afficionados and their families and friends!
The Toronto Songwriters’ Festival’s mission is:
1. To provide a platform for Toronto's top acoustic songwriters/performers (to ultimately try to connect them with music consumers, and the movers and shakers who can give them a hand up);
2. To raise money to improve education conditions for children in developing countries (currently Laos & India) through Jai Dee (Good Heart) Children's Fund;
3. To create a continuously growing, recognized annual event where people come together to make a difference.
History
We launched this festival on September 24, 2006 at Hugh’s Room to great acclaim. Approximately 150 people attended and we raised over $5,000 for charity. Jojo Chintoh from CityNews officiated and a clip of our festival aired at 11 the night of the event (http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_3804.aspx). We also had an article published in the Bloor West newspaper. To see last year’s performers (a number of them award-winners) visit www.jaideechildrensfund.org (click on the banner at the top). They included: Blue Venus (Andrea de Boer and Devrim Eldelekli), Layah Jane, Noah Zacharin, Peter J. Slack, Royal Wood, Suzie Vinnick, The Undesirables (Sean Cotton and Corin Raymond) and 1 award-winning comedian: Alex Nussbaum. We also had The Russell Leon Band.

Zappha runs www.myonesquaremile.com and Brewster's Coffeehouse Tours. Thanks so much to Zappha, Kiera, Peter, all the musicians (Royal Wood, Peter Slack, Jon Brooks, Marianne Girard, David Rankine and Gillian Thomas, Terry Golletz), and everyone who helped out and attended!Thank you IndieCan!
