"What would you do if you weren't afraid?" This is one of the questions that singer songwriter Ruth Acuff sings out in her timeless golden voice. Ruth has been singing all her life and started playing the guitar at 16. By the time she was 17 she had begun writing original songs. Because she has a wide variety of rock, acoustic, folk, funk and jazz incorporated in her originals, Ruth easily sets the mood for any occasion. Although she is only a petite 5’2, Ruth’s charming stage presence and powerful voice make her an instant attention catcher.
Native to Columbia Missouri, her angelic voice and creative songwriting tie her back to Nashville Tennessee and the Grand old’ Opry; where her family says she inherited her talent from classic country singer Roy Acuff. Ruth has found herself traveling to Nashville to get back to her family roots, and hopes to follow in Roy’s musical footsteps.
In 2003 Ruth found herself accompanied by musician Jeff Mueller. He has become a full time musical partner, joining Ruth in playing Bass, Melodica, and back up vocals. They also have an electric five-piece band called Rutherford in which a collaboration of Ruth and Jeff’s originals are played. Rutherford has released a full-length album entitled “Mapping out Chaos†and is planning a second release in winter 2007.
Ruth currently plays guitar as an acoustic duo with Jeff Mueller, as well as playing guitar and bass with her band Rutherford.
