If you want to support a writer, produce the first five plays he writes. - August Wilson

I was born with a passion for the written and spoken word. I am proud to say I am a published writer and have been since I was fourteen. I live in a town called McDonough, just south of Atlanta, where Nick (my partner of eight years) and I own a home together. We are the proud parents of five spoiled cats (Dana, Hamilton, Oliver, Sally Ane and Tabitha) and two crazy dogs (Lucy McGillicuddy and Cosette Simone). I was born in Los Angeles (I'm a Redondo Beach native) but grew up mostly in Berkeley and Sacramento. I lived in Chicago for three years and moved to Georgia four years ago. I harbor a secret dream of living in Brussels one day. The city is magic and the people are poetry. I am inspired by awesome music, intelligent conversations and people who dare to ignore the rules and aren't afraid to be themselves.

WHAT MAKES ME SMILE: Nick, our cats Dana, Hamilton, Oliver, Sally Anne and Tabitha, our dogs Lucy and Cosette, white carnations, Almond Rocca, board games (I kick ass at bingo and Monopoly), Sal Mineo films, Claudette Colbert films, Jessica Lange films, anything written by Fannie Flagg or Dorothy Parker, white chocolate, Chicago at Christmas, the city of Brussels, venti nonfat white chocolate mochas (iced), peanut butter M&M's, the success of my students, any episode of The Young and The Restless, the sound of rain, the smell of gardenias, slow dances and tacos.

I'd like to meet:

Fellow writers and others who are cursed with and by creativity; playwrights and actors who are equally concerned about the fate of American theatre; poets who wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and an avalanche of tumbling words; Jessica Lange because she is the epitome of perfection and grace. I also have a secret crush on Lisa Marie Presley.
My stage plays have been produced in seven countries and twenty-eight American states. Here are production photos from around the world. Enjoy!: Get Your Own! | View Slideshow

Music:

My favorite song at the moment is Friend of Mine by Lily Allen.

Musicians who have really inspired me and my work are: Berlin (Terri Nunn is a goddess), Book of Love, Bree Sharp, Charlotte Martin, Concrete Blonde, Courtney Love (my female counterpart), Cyndi Lauper, Danielle Brisebois (the best songwriter of my generation), Damone (the best new rock band in years), Deborah Gibson (we're four days apart and she's brilliant - 'nough said), The Dollyrots (kick ass new band that I'm planning to become obsessed with this summer), Fetchin' Bones (please do a reunion tour, so I may finally see you live),Garbage, Go Betty Go, Jaci Velasquez, Jane Jensen (a true rock star), Joan Jett, Julia Darling (who has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard), Juliana Hatfield (you are brilliant), Juliette and the Licks (I love her!!), Kacy Crowley, Kristin Hersh, Lisa Marie Presley (one of only a few women that I would marry), Lysa Flores, Maria McKee (she saved my life), Nelly Furtado (although I prefer her older stuff), Northern State (the baddest girl group in my universe), Pat Benatar, Placebo (my life set to music), Plumb, Possum Dixon (Celso Chavez is the hottest guitar God ever), Rebecca St. James (a true role model), The Raveonettes (brilliant band I just recently heard), Sarah Hudson (way too underrated), Scissor Sisters (who put on an amazing live show), Sophie B. Hawkins (brilliant lyricist), The Go Gos, The Shangri-Las, The Sounds (best new band in years), Tanya Donelly, Tori Amos (and not just because she sang Happy Birthday to me), Veruca Salt (Resolver is one of the best CD's ever made), Wendy James (formerly of Transvision Vamp and now Racine) and Wendy MaHarry (the voice of an angel). Latin freestyle music was and is a huge favorite of mine since it helped to shape my world while growing up in the Bay Area.

Movies:

Beautiful Thing, Breaking Glass, Brokeback Mountain (the most poetic film ever made), Brokedown Palace, Camille Claudel, Cinema Paradiso, Gas Food Lodging, Girls Town, Party Girl, The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio, Rebel Without A Cause, Rent, Smithereens, Star Struck, Terms of Endearment, Wicker Park, Wish You Were Here, Yossi & Jagger and anything with Jessica Lange in it.

I watch Brothers and Sisters, Cold Case, Medium, Ugly Betty, and of course...The Young and The Restless. I'm also a big fan of game shows and any episode of I Love Lucy..
