Loren Depping

Sounds like them because it is them.

About Me

Loren Depping came from his mother and his father, though that’s but a hushed rumor. Although originally Canadian, he was switched at birth, gently gracing the arid foothills of Aberdeen, Washington. Coincidentally (should you believe in them), that was also the small-town home of one Kurt Cobain. Loren never met Kurt, but I’m sure if he had Kurt would have taken his lunch money.Well, the years went by, Loren got a guitar, couldn’t play it, and gave it up. Then he joined a band, couldn’t play it, and gave it up. Before long, he was writing songs. And that was fun.So, naturally, Loren moved to Albuquerque (not the wrong-turn old cartoons made it out to be), New Mexico, in 2000, then to Salem (Oregon, not the witch-trial Salem) in 2001. He began playing guitar, singing and writing for the powerpop band "Partly Dave" in ’03. The band released their signature (well, their only) album, "Own Up," in ’06, then imploded, as any good band must after their first album so that hundreds of discs may be stored under the bed.Dave played in that band with Loren. Now Loren and Dave play live shows together. That brings us to now. You are here.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/lorendeppingmusic
Band Members: I am Loren, so I get to be in the band. It's a good thing, too, or I wouldn't be me. Dave is also in the band because he has a bass. And he can play it, too. So he's in.
Influences: Marshall Crenshaw, Jimmy Webb, NRBQ, Big Al Anderson, John Prine, The Beatles--especially George, Christine McVie (just ’cause she has such a beautiful voice), Freedy Johnston, anybody who has written a really good song. And Loren loves Kathleen Edwards. Well, not literally. You have to know each other first.
Sounds Like: Loren Depping writes songs that sound like late 60s and early 70s AM radio--pop, country, rock, and folk. Like if "Always on My Mind" had a party and invited "Something," "The Letter," "Buckaroo," "Wichita Lineman," and "Go Your Own Way." They'd probably do a cover of "Heart of Gold."
Record Label: See the little, round piece of paper, mid-LP?
Type of Label: None
