They want to ban pit bulls - but what they really should do is ban the people who are bringing them up wrong - After police investigated bites by a pit bull - Over 93% of Bites that occur from a pit bull have resulted in the person mistreating the dog or the dog being provoked. Lets see what group of people commit the most crime and who occupy the majority of our prisons and Ban those people from breeding - Because that is what we are doing to pit bulls. But the facts are - Pit Bulls are not doing the majority of the biting. These are all Facts and If you do not believe me then Please Check them out Yourself...Fact: Small dogs such as poodles and Pomeranians etc. Have bitten more people then Pit Bulls in 2006 but the news does not report it - Because it does not sell papers -Fact: The American Canine Temperament Testing Association is an organization that titles dogs for passing its temperament test. The test consists of putting the dog into a series of unexpected situations, some involving strangers. The dog fails the test if it shows any signs of unprovoked aggression or panic around people. In 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, the "Pit Bull" (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire and Staffordshire Bull) out performed the Golden Retriever, a breed noted for its gentle temperament. Of all dogs that take the test, 77% on average pass. But among Pit Bulls who take the test, 95% on average pass--one of the highest passing rates of all breeds. Fact: 92% of Pit Bull attacks only occur when the dog is provoked or being mistreated. Dixie's owner, Valerie Butler of Fayetteville, has alot to be thankful for. In 1999, a poisonous water snake (a moccasin) tried to attack her two children. Dixie stepped between the snake and the children and in return, took multiple bites to the face and eyes, waiting for Valerie to kill the snake before she finally moved. Dixie received the Georgia Animal Hall of Fame Hero Animal of the Year award Weela is prominantly known for saving a child by shoving him aside in order to prevent him from being bitten by a rattlesnake. However, Weela has saved many lives on more than one occassion. Her courage and faithfulness has saved more than 30 people, 29 dogs, 13 horses, and a cat. Spike is a service dog, for a quadriplegic who couldn't function without Spikes help! There are many pit bulls that are being used as therapy and disability assistant dogs today, because of their intelligence, dedication, and gentle disposition towards people. Dakota is an American Pit Bull Terrier used for search and rescue. He is part of a team of pit bulls used to save people's lives. Some of the pit bulls are also used as therapy dogs in hospitals. For more information, visit Dakota's website at www.forpitssake.org Popsicle the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was a very fortunate dog. He was near death when his rescuers found him nearly frozen to death in a freezer on a drug dealer's back porch. He is one of the most famous and successful drug sniffing dogs in the U.S.
