About Me

"The tunes are certainly catchy, yet they veer away from the predictable pop patterns. The vocals are intertwined with the music in a slightly off-kilter fashion. And the deftly constructed melodies subtly creep into your psyche without fanfare. We found ourselves unconsciously humming the title track, arguably the standout of the collection, after only the first listen." - John Sewell, Metro Pulse

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: tenderhooks.net
Band Members: Jake Winstrom
Emily Robinson
Ben Oyler
Matt Honkonen
Influences: variously influenced by the Beatles, breakfast, Emmylou Harris, Sonic Youth, Peter Hook, Neil Young, Television, Lucinda Williams, REM, Joni Mitchell, egg nog, hot glazed donuts, Pere Ubu, gin and tonic, Bob Dylan, eczema, Roxy Music, and the Zombies, sort of.
Sounds Like: "Vocalist [Jake Winstrom] leads the group through some crunchy material that fears neither the sonic boom of the powerchord nor the sugary delights of harmony. Just think of the edgy pop sensibilities of the Velvet Underground’s Loaded album, and you’ll have some idea where these guys (and gal) are coming from, maybe."

- Metropulse Best of 2006

"There's nothing at all tender or soft about Tenderhooks' bait-and-catch. The Knoxville four-piece cuts to the quick of its pop songs with a Southern vitality and exuberance, tight guitar grips and country-rail basslines pushing [Jake Winstrom's] perfectly wide-eyed voice up with a perfected edge. Their debut, Vidalia, is stuffed with would-be radio anthems (witness the title track), evincing equal parts jangle-pop charm and Delta rock (read: Jim Dickinson) grit. If you like the dB's, Big Star or even The Shins, Tenderhooks are waiting."
