BEN*JAM*IN
Guitars, Bass, Drums, Keyboards, Vocals, Songwriting, Arrangements, Producing, Lyrics Ben*jam*in - Hard working Rock & Roll Kid (by: Michael Fuchs-Gamboeck)They still exist, the little wild wonders in the big, and nowadays slightly boring world of rock n' roll. One of these miracles is called Ben*jam*in, one, who is moreover from the provence, somewhere in the neverland near Augsburg. From an area, where you usually wouldn't excpect the future of the wild rock n'roll. And another fact suprises - the age of Ben*jam*in: Singer, guitarist and songwriter Benny is only 21 years old [EDIT: Birthday - June 4th 1986].Too young to have an interesting past, you might suppose now. But Ben*jam*in surprises again. In 1997, at the tender age of 11, Benny started the Band The Jelly Beans (names after a delicious sort of candy) with his sister Corinna ( Vocals, Bass and Keyboards), who was 14 years old back then.Covering songs of other bands soon got boring, especially when they took part in a band contest in a club in Greece and won it! Things like that give you motivation! The music was beginning to become a serious matter. Now they needed own songs (by now they have written more than 30 songs), a drummer (whom they found in Flo), and a place to practice (at home). Numerous live performances followed and The Jelly Beans soon had a constantly growing fancommunity.Benny soon became the head of the band. The whole band thing got a bit too professional for Flo, and also for the drummer who followed. Sister Corinna left the Band in October 2003, because she is studying in another city. All this didn't stop Ben*jam*in from going his own way. On the contrary, he became an expert in everything concerning music and has now also taken up producing, mostly his own pieces. But with what kind of music does Ben*jam*in identify himself? Is it much to old songs by a much too young musician? Benny R. says: "I listen to music mostly under technical aspects, for examples to improve my own guitar playing and songwriting. I'm not a huge fan of a specific band." Therefore Benny's favorite artists are very different ones, like Chuck Berry, Black Crowes, Live or Remy Zero. But, so says the young guitarist "I don't imitate anything and anybody. I think have already developed my very own style. If some songs sound like 60es or 70es style, that's not a planned effect, it happens totally unconcious. I try to have a diverse producing. I think rock has a large variety."Ben*jam*in's music is best described like this: Young, wild, honest, direct and self-confident pop/rock. With charme and lots of charisma Benny convinces his growing fancommunity. Especially at live concerts, the audience feels the raw energy of the threesome, the pure joy of his own music. He has proved this together with his band at many smaller performances, but also at bigger events, like "BRAVO Youngstars 2000" (Benny and The Jelly Beans made it under the best 10 bands, and were broadcasted on "BRAVO TV / RTL2 "), the OpenAir Festival "X-Large" in Augsburg, "Youngsterball 2001" in Stuttgart, or X-Mas-Jam in Schrobenhausen, the band-contest "Perle am Rhein 2003" in Andernach and the Emergenza 2003" in Munich. But: "Despite BRAVO TV," Benny says "I'm definitely not a Teenpop Musician. What I play and write, is pure Rock music."Ben*jam*in was also successful in July 2003 when he wrote the title song "School goes Paper" for a school project with a large, internation paper company. He was Songwriter, Procucer and Performer for this song. The song was so successful, that it is now used for promotion of this paper company (2000 CDs).When writing songs, Benny's concept is pretty clear: After school he works with new melodies in his room, ideas he just had or one of the numerous ones he has saved on his computer or his cell phone. Afterwards he goes to his own little music studio. In a rather professional way he does the arrangements and producing, and records the instruments with passion and care in his home studio. Sister Corinna often helps with the lyrics and last but not least Benny records the vocals. Just the classic rock n' roll way.Up until now the combination "little brother" and "older sister" alway seemed very interesting. "No," Corinna says "I never had a problem with playing in a band with Benny. The time with The Jelly Beans were wonderful years and I admire Benny for his passion for music, his incredible talent and for working on his music so consequently. I will definitely try to support him as much as possible in making his dream come true!"Instruments have always played an important role in the siblings' life - Benny started with recorder at the age of six, with acoustic guitar at the age of 8. He learned electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboards by himself, and for a short period of time he had lessons in E-guitar from a professional teacher "to", so says Benny "get more professional."Benny's voice has a wonderful timbre, which reaches you instantly. He has a large range of voice and you recognize his voice everywhere. He can sing slow ballads as well as up-tempo rock songs.Eventually, and despite school: "I can very well imagine to be able to live from my music soon," Benny states, "that would be my biggest dream, and I hope I can make it come true."You only have to listen to the new demos of the Ben*jam*in to know that this dream will soon become reality. Ben*jam*in a wild little contribution to big mama rock'n'roll who has become a little lazy lately. Ben*jam*in-Facts:
