About Me

Bio time (the truncated version)!
Sean D.; Horror journalist working for Fangoria Magazine, among other things.

____________
Bio time (the verbose version)!
I’m a film journalist with a focus on the more sticky of the genres… no, not that one - the other slightly-less-despised-by-the-mainstream genre; HORROR. My first published interview appeared in the print mag Monsterscene in '97 (it was with Sarah Michelle Gellar for I Know What You Did Last Summer, and yes, I was nervous before you ask… she was Buffy!), and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of traipsing about many a film set, meeting many a film hero, happily ruining many an article of clothing (gore-drenched productions have that effect) and all-in-all living out most every horror fans’ dream (I was converted as a wee lad; watching Bob Wilkins’ Creature Features with my father in the 70’s… so you’ve got them to blame).
Back to the present, since 2004 I’ve served as a correspondent for Fangoria Entertainment, filing my stories with both Fangoria Magazine and their online entity; Fangoria.com. Prior to that (beginning in 1997) I served as news editor and staff writer at the now-defunct Universal Studios scare-site HorrorOnline.com (a vastly rewarding experience, where I learned the ropes from friend and at-the-time producer Joe Sena) and as a writer for hire, publishing in a variety of horror outlets, including 1313 Magazine, HorrorMovies.com, and Dungeon of Darkness, to name a few. Throughout it all, I’ve strived for journalistic integrity while taking a decidedly ‘wear it on the sleeve’ approach to my love for the genre.
Other literary excursions include the horror shorts “Emerald-Irised Basilisk” and “Truth & Consequence” (winners of Best Short Fiction at 1998’s World Horror Convention and 2004’s SpookyCon, respectively) and the feature screenplay “Alluvial,” which I co-authored with bad-ass screenwriter Jack Ulrich (optioned and currently seeking financing).
Oh, and I front a band occasionally too. For more on how both David Hasselhoff and I are “big in Europe,” go here .

My Interests

My boy. All things Halloween. Horror flicks. Filmmaking. Journalism. Screenwriting. History. Architecture. Vintage warbirds. The Golden Age of Hollywood. Music in all of its forms. The fabulousness that is Miss Sue. And the rest, as they say, is for me to know and for you to find out.

Check it; my first Fango cover story (issue no. 257)!

I'd like to meet:

Horror fans, filmmakers and a producer with deep pockets and a love for 80’s horror and exploitation.

Music:

DMD, Virulent (2001)
Buy it here

Movies:

Since I can't watch 1978's Halloween all of the time, I guess I'll have to go with foreign and independent, film noir, Hammer flicks, campy American T n' A slashers, 80's horror, giallo, J-horror, kaiju, Universal classics, 50's sci-fi, horror and big-bug flicks, exploitation, war films, period dramas, anything Lynch or Tarantino, character-driven romances, bio-pics, road movies, sex-comedies, almost everything Carpenter (Escape From L.A. and Ghosts of Mars being the only exceptions) or Burton (his Planet of the Apes remake was bullocks), most of the work of Clint Eastwood, Russ Meyer, Sergio Leone, David Fincher, Sam Peckinpah, and up to this point absolutely, positively nothing Boll.

Upcoming flicks you most likely should see.

The films you SHOULD have seen in the theatre but didn't.

Television:

Make it educational.

Books:

As many as I can.

Heroes:

They know who they are.
