About Me

It was several years ago that guitar-virtuoso Iwan de Reus (T-Bone, Jörgen Raymann) and keyboardplayer Erwin Steenbergen (The Cry Ugly, SuperFloyd) met during an audition. In fact it was Iwan who was trying to get the much desired spot as lead guitarist in Erwin’s ‘at-the-time’ project.
The band didn’t last, the friendship and musical co-operation did. At least for a while. After recording a number of Erwin’s songs, their ways parted. That is, until Iwan decided that the world needed yet another Level 42 tribute act. Hot Water was born. Probably because Erwin was the only keyboardplayer Iwan knows. The same goes for drummers…..
Silvano Orlandi (Plastic, T-Bone) did not only take a right sense of rhythm to the group; his wide-range experience and lame jokes made Erwin fall instantly in love (and put Iwan back into love again). Recording the demo for Hot Water was a revelation: only 2 days were needed to lay down 6 amazing versions of Level 42 classics. Which immediately raised the question ‘why not record our OWN material?’
Enter Denny Borsboom (De Kern, SuperFloyd), Erwin’s ’friend-for-life-and-beyond’. Actually, it was Iwan who suggested that Denny would be the right person for the job, subtly moving himself to the bass for good (well, at least for this project). Denny and Erwin have been playing, composing, and recording ever since they first learned about music. With his Gilmour-esque approach, the funky trio got their desired rock-edge.
BrainFreeze is currently in the studio, working on their debut-album. Previews will be posted here on an irregular basis…but they WILL be posted. There are but a few rules for a song to become a true BrainFreeze classic: it has to have a groove, it must really rock, but most of all…it’s always played with attitude. Keep your eye on the ball, all the time. Focus.

Influences: We lean healivy on those great acts from the sixties, seventies, eighties, and sometimes, yes occasionally even the nineties: from Pink Floyd to Alan Holdsworth, from Supertramp to The Black Crowes. The Doors meeting The Beatles kinda thing. Level 42 interpreting Fleetwood Mac. Funky like Mother's Finest, rocky like The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Catch our drift?
