I'd like to meet:

Lots of people who I can't meet cos they are dead: John Donne, Emily Dickinson, Will Shakespeare, Bert Brecht, John Clare, John Keats. Don't want to meet Larkin as he was a bit miserable and I think I'd be scared of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes. I like to meet other writers and people who like talking and telling stories, or musicians who'd like to jam. I'd love to meet people I could be in a band with, even though my guitar playing sucks. On this site I would like to meet people who are into poetry and music, especially folk music.

Music:

Love most music but do have favs: Dixie Chicks, Gordon Tyrrall, John Kirkpatrick, Martin Carthy(otherwise known as god-with-guitar), Katie Melua, Madelaine Peyroux, Ralph McTell, 422, Jake Thackray, Brass Monkey,Karine Polwart, Bert Jansch, Mary Chapin Carpenter, loads more I can't think of without checking ipod. Just back from Whitby Folk Week - sadly over for another year - but not sorry to be home. This year's favourites were (as ever) Gordon Tyrrall, Tony Hall, Kieron Means, Strawhead and Martin Wyndham Reed; enjoyed Fay Hield's set; new favourites are Mike Tickell and Jody Kruskal. But where was John Kirkpatrick this year (only one gig we could not get in to), NO Roger Wllson, Vikki Swan or Sharon Fountain - BOOO, these are great performers and should have been there!!!!!

Movies:

You Got Mail; Romeo + Juliet; Dirty Dancing; Spirited Away; Howl's Moving Castle; The Village; Mean Girls; 10 Things I Hate About You; The Green Mile; In Search of the Casataways; Shakespeare in Love, Sleepless in Seattle.

Television:

Life on Mars was excellent. So was Party Animals - Andrew Buchan was oustanding! Doctor Who, of course and Torchwood. I love comedy series like Frasier, Blackadder, Dinnerladies, Father Ted. Recently discovered New Tricks as well. I also admit to enjoying things set in schools! But that's cos my job is endlessly fascinating. Hope and Glory, Hearts and Minds, not Teachers because it's on too late on a school night! Plus it's unrealistic as we don't have time to go to the pub.

Books:

Books I have written: Dandelions for Mothers' Day (Stride 1988)Poetry The Fiddle (Stride 1999)Poetry The Way We Came (bluechrome 2007) Poetry Books I have edited: The Least Thing (Stride 1989) Making Connections (Stride 1996) I've also been in lots of anthologies, including for children. I love reading - here are a few of my favourites: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien The Chrestomanci Books by Diana Wynne Jones The Chrysalids by John Wydnham. Which Jane Austen Character Are You?
You are Eliza Bennett from Pride and Prejudice! Yay, you! Perhaps the brightest and best character in all of English literature, you are intelligent, lively, lovely-- in short, you are the best of company. Your only foibles are that you stick with your first impressions... and your family is quite intolerable.
