About Me

I am just a regular cat. I like to people watch. I think i am down to earth, approachable and easy to talk to. Although i can be sarcastic at times. I like to hit it up the jazz spots here in the DC area and just sit down, listen and write. check out my website (divinecipher.com) and other blog (divinecipher.com/blog) when you get a chance.
You have got to watch and listen to these videos! The first is one of the most moving pieces of trumpet playing i have ever heard. The song is somewhat of an elegy, but at the same time a celebration of the life of Clifford Brown ( one of the most influential trumpet players of the hard bop era). Google him.
Until I started really listening to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, i had no idea how "terrible" (bop lingo for great) these cats were.
The members of the band at this time were: Art Blakey (drums), Lee Morgan (trumpet),Benny Golson (sax) Bobby Timmons (piano) ,Jymie Merritt (bass). This clip is from a DVD entitled "Live in '58" (available at jazzicons.com). The name of the song is "I Remember Clifford". By the way, Lee Morgan (trumpet) was only 20 years old in this clip.
Listen and enjoy!
here is another Lee Morgan joint (with Art Blakey and the Jazz messengers) called "Yama" this time Wayne Shorter is in the Tenor Saxophone, i am not sure of the other personnel (piano and bass), but i will find out. Do yourself a favor and pick up the Night in Tunisia Album by Blakey's messenger to hear another beautiful version of this song.
