What is: Protocol featured Ed Bailie (vocals), Philip Stainton (guitar), David Waite (bass), Chris Ashkettle (Guitar) and Will Richards (drums).
Hailing predominately from the Reading area, the high-spirited alternative
rock outfit actually came together in Guildford in early 2006 when the band
members met at music college.
The five piece took inspiration from their surroundings to present an energetic, fresh, dynamic sound. The group swiftly started conquering its own fan base with much talked about live performances.
Within a few months the band went from playing local pubs to headline/main
support such London venues as Clapham Grand, Sound (Leicester Square), The Orange (formerly West One Four) and the Wimbledon Watershed.
They were fast becoming recognised on the alternative rock scene.
The band quickly recorded a self-titled EP at Earth Terminal Studios (Vex Red, Hope of the States, OK Tokyo) which harnessed all the dynamic energy created in their intense live performances.
Shortly after the launch of their debut EP, 'What is: Protocol' guitarist Chris Ashkettle departed the band, and the remaining members have since been locked away writing for a new, as yet untitled project, to be launched in early 2008.
Thank you to everyone who supported 'What is: Protocol' through their short but beautiful two year history. We will let you know as soon as we have more info on the band's love child.
"destined for greatness, surely...it's hard to believe they did not even
exist a few months ago. Everyone seems to be talking about them in London
at the moment. Must see band of the year" - Emergenza International

"Catchy, stomping lyrics, sung in a class of their own, ably backed by a guitar that tears at the soul. This music will leave you banging a rhythm on the kitchen table like a possessed demon." - FeedBack Magazine
