About Me
Ethan Meixsell has developed a reputation as an extremely versatile musician in the New York area, having professional credits as a guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, singer, arranger, engineer, and producer. As a performer he has become known for his meticulous attention to tone and feel, backed by a substantial technique and fluency in many styles of music. His music, while rooted in the guitar-driven instrumental genre, is often characterized as a stream of consciousness melding of Jazz, Fusion, Blues, Metal, Progressive, and Ambient textures. His material rarely treads on safe or familiar musical territory yet still remains emotionally evocative.
Recently, Ethan produced Rob Balducci's newest record "The Color of Light" for Steve Vai’s Favored Nations record label. Ethan also performed bass and keyboards on a number of tracks. Following completion of the record Ethan became Rob's full time bassist. The Rob Balducci Band has toured internationally sharing billing with James Labrie (Dream Theater), Richie Kotzen, Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Jason Bonham, Guthrie Govan, Vinnie Moore, UFO, Steve Morse, Kansas, and many others. The band retains equipment endorsements from Ibanez, Cornford Amplification, D’addario, George L cables, Robert Keeley Electronics, Line 6 and Intellitouch tuners.
He is also the lead guitarist for singer/songwriters The Scoldees . Their music has been heard on several indie soundtracks and on episodes of MTV's Made. Some performance highlights include appearances at Woodstock ’99, The Mountain Stage New Song Festival, The Kerrville Folk Festival and a live performance on the Howard Stern Show. The Scoldees are currently working on their 3rd studio record and are editing together a live DVD of their performance at Greenwich Village's Manhattan Theatre Source.
As the head engineer/producer for M3 Music, Ethan has worked with hundreds of artists in the New York Metro area and beyond, producing records of several different genres. He also maintains a teaching
studio offering lessons in music theory, guitar, bass, and voice. His
guitar transcriptions have been published by Guitarist, France’s Guitar and Bass magazine, and Mel Bay Publishing. He is currently working on a book of creative concepts and techniques for the developing guitarist.
This year he is focusing on his first solo record, co-producing with Brian Harding (Dream Theater, Ray Charles, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion) in addition to his other performance dates. Other recent projects include work on the soundtrack for the film “Brooklyn Lobster†produced by Martin Scorcese, and numerous studio performances in the NY area. Ethan endorses
Ashdown Bass Amplification Systems and John Suhr Guitars and Amps .
