Sounds Like: "Monument" Reviews:

"I was impressed this tech-heavy prog metal band from Houston shagged me down to send me their highly striking self-released debut album Monument. It sounds like these young brothers have spent considerable amounts of time around CANVAS SOLARIS, RUSH and Steve Vai’s influential Flexible album, but moreover, SCALE THE SUMMIT is a bit heavier than the aforementioned influences; at times much heavier. What’s particularly expressive on Monument is how SCALE THE SUMMIT sculpts each track with escalating rhythms and notes, each bar growing more and more detailed as both Chris Letchford and Travis Levrier weave literal tapestries on their guitars while bassist Jordan Eberhardt dances metrically beneath them, ringing his own voice prominently on “Wolves” and “Omni,” for example. The tones of these instrumentals are adventurous and inspiring as this band puts you in their musical pocket and drags you along their ascension, so it truly does feel like you’re scaling a summit with them. On occasion this band does repeat certain measures on the eight songs, not quite in ostinato fashion, but more so reprising along the way to remind you that you’re riding their audile journey with them. For the limited technology this unsigned act has at its disposal, Monument is nonetheless a beautifully tailored set of progressive instrumentals, and this band will only grow resoundingly once a smart label out there unearths these guys. The proficient Pat Skeffington will really set ears afire when a savvy producer catches his windy rolls and snare strikes as loudly as they should be. When that happens, SCALE THE SUMMIT will become one of America’s best prog metal units, bank on it."
