About Me

When you get scratched it hurts, there’s pain maybe even blood, but no matter what else is going on, no matter what you were doing a scratch makes it all go away for a second, even for a minute. When you are scratched all that is on your mind is the scratch. That’s what it is like to be scratched by the Cross. It seems to happen by accident. You are enjoying your life, living it, and something lands right in your lap, in your now, taking control of the situation away from you, making you make an instant uncomfortable choice. It could be a homeless person in your face, a person who needs help or whatever. You have to decide in an instant, are you going to do what Jesus would do or are you going to walk away back to your life and pretend it didn’t happen? Even though the world is full of people who need us and need help, we are all so good at ignoring all that is ugly and hard and living our lives the comfortable way we want to. And you’re not thinking, should I do what Jesus would do? Hell Jesus maybe the last thing on your mind. It is an awkward kind of am I going to do what I know is right? Being scratched is that instant moment of realization that something else besides you is important. It’s your choice after the scratch to ignore the pain the interruption or choose to act. To Jesus of Nazareth we were that scratch. What if he chooses to live a comfortable life? What would that mean for all of us? Being scratched is Jesus himself showing us what is in front of us, This is an chance from Jesus for YOU to help. From there it is our choice to do as Mother Theresa says “and do what is in front of us” or ignore it and wallow in our own self centeredness. You will be scratched. What are you going to do?
