Diary of a M.A.D. Black Woman -- http://carmeliciouss.blogspot.com/

I’m a Virgin Islander from the ROCK living in the Bay Area. I work in Entertainment Media for a non-profit organization that creates and distributes sexual health messaging through various types of media. (USE CONDOMS PEOPLE!!!).
I'm a student at NDNU working towards a degree in Human Services which I plan to use to help people in under served communities find the resources and support to realize and live up to their full potential.
I am a mother to an amazing little boy!
I write and perform spoken word. I AM A POET! I LOVE to be on stage with a mic in front of my face speaking to a crowd of people that don’t even know my name, but can’t wait to hear every single word as it rolls of my lips.
I love to travel, especially back to the Islands (check my pics...it's beautiful!)
If you wanna know anything else, just ask...peace!

Music:

I LOVE MUSIC! I especially love music with a purpose...passionate, strong and soulful music. I love old music that touches you to the core. I love hip hop, especially artists who are aware of the reality that exists outside of the glitz and the glam. I love "underground" artists that speak about so much more than "bitches" and bling. I love Reggae, R&B, calypso, reggaeton...and so much more. My favorite artists...without a doubt MOS DEF!!!

Television:

Boondocks

Books:

Anything by Toni Morrison"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds." Bob Marley

Heroes:

All of My People - anyone who has overcome adversity and used their experiences to make them stronger

Does hip-hop define what it means to grow up black in America?

Hip Hop doesn't necessarily define what it means to grow up Black in America. I am growing up Black in America and Hip Hop does not define me.   Hip Hop as a culture plays and large role in th...

Why is there a Black journalism organization?

"Why do black people have their own journalism organization? White people don't have one!" Well, it's a silly question. It's just as silly as asking why there's a NAACP, the United Negro College Fund ...

I've found my latest obsession, Anthony Hamilton. I hate to admit it, but I was sleeping on this one. My cousing (FRO/FUGGIE) gave me a copy of his first CD and I let it sit on the shelf collecti...

Kimora Lee Simmons - Life in the Fab Lane

I'm loving this chick. Usually people with that much attitude drive me nutz, but she's also so driven and hard working that the diva-tude isn't so bad. Here's a link to the first episode of her new r...
