I am told that I am an eclectic mix of spirituality and sarcasm . . . I like to say I am profoundly witty. I have 2 daughters that are only alike in the fact they are both female and they are both mine. Ruth and Claire - together they are a perfect mix of fervor and tenderness, of conviction and mercy. But when they are at odds . . . well, to be honest, I see every character flaw I passed on to them! Being a parent is much more than I ever thought it would be - full of unexpected eruptions of joy - matched only in passion by the deep rending of your heart when your child is hurt or afraid. I am a single mom, divorced after 6 years of marriage. That's right - a divorced Christian. If you're wondering about that, just ask - I'll tell. I don't want to get into it here but I sure can say one thing: God is CRAZY LOVE GOOD! I spent the first 19 years of my life groping for some kind of truth. I didn't want truth that I had to study - I wanted a Truth that would envelope me. I was raised Catholic, but rejected confirmation - not because I was a butt-head, but because I still didn't know who God was. I didn't choose some mild alternative, like Protestantism. I turned to Jack Daniel and Mary Jane . . . we hung out a lot. I tried Wicca, Hare Krishna, Buddhism, Taoism, atheism, agnosticism (the hardest), Tarot cards, and all kinds of et ceteras. I was still lonely, and I still felt I had to prove myself . . . Buddha wouldn't just sit and have a conversation. I hated Jesus - not with any real good reason - I was just disgusted with the followers of His that I knew. But one day, He talked to me. Quite freaky. All these gods and the One I hated was the only One who sat down to talk. I laughed - crazy good God just crumbled my self-made philosphies and started a conversation with me. It's been going strong for 12 years. MySpace is your space . . . eavesdrop on the conversation . . .

My Interests

Being outside, reading, drinking cold water, anthropology, Sonic ice, music, salt & vinegar chips, being on boats, infectious diseases, birds, coffee, social trends, wound care, new mascara, clouds, vegetables, dogs, traveling, eating out, road trips, snakes, tea, epidemiology, conversations, writing, playing cards, cats, Italian food, water, and weather. I DON'T LIKE unloading the dishwasher, taking the trash out, slow drivers, edging the lawn, shopping at Walmart on Saturday, barbeque, and anything to do with eyeballs. THE DRIVING PASSION OF MY ENTIRE HEART, MIND, SOUL, AND BODY . . . getting people to enter into the Conversation.

I'd like to meet:

What Be Your Nerd Type? Your Result: Social Nerd

You're interested in things such as politics, psychology, child care, and peace. I wouldn't go so far as to call you a hippie, but some of you may be tree-huggers. You're the type of people who are interested in bettering the world. You're possible the least nerdy of them all; unless you participate in other activies that paled your nerdiness compared to your involvement in social activities. Whatever the case, we could still use more of you around. ^_^

Quizzes for MySpace“You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be. And one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls you to stand up for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause.. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid… You refuse to do it because you want to live longer…You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticised or that you will lose your popularity, or you are afraid that somebody will stab you, or shoot you, or bomb your house, so you refuse to take a stand. Well, you may go on to live until you are 90, but you’re as dead at 38 as you would be at 90. And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit”Rev. Dr Martin Luther King Jr. November 5th, 1968.

Music:

Big Band, Blues, Jazz, World Music. I love alto, slide guitar, drums, bass, and piano. Check out My Friend Graham Ord and listen to his stuff . . . brilliant. I like Tracy Chapman, Toshi Reagon, the psalters, the KLF, Doc Watson, Jackie Davis, TobyMac, Crash Test Dummies (Superman's Song), Gypsy Kings, Alejandro Escovedo, Jason Mraz, Jennifer Knapp, Melissa Etheridge, Norah Jones, Kelly Clarkson, Miles Davis, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Jason Upton, Libby Roderick, Eric Clapton, Todd Agnew, Don Potter, Keith and Sanna Luker, Marc James, U2, Peter Murphy, Simon and Garfunkel, The Proclaimers . . . and the list goes on . . .

Movies:

I have a mortgage, dysfunctional family dynamics, lost loves, a marriage and divorce . . . what I don't have are pirates, international spies, superheroes, and other such things. Give me a movie with those things and I am happy: Pirates of the Carribean, The Last Samurai, Hunt for Red October, Oceans 11/12, Reservoir Dogs, Wag the Dog, Shawshank Redemption, Catch Me if You Can, The Green Mile, The Mission, Lord of the Rings, Life is Beautiful, Narnia, The Apostle, Hotel Rwanda, U571, The Fugitive, Lonesome Dove, Les Miserables, The Passion, Secondhand Lions, Dead Man Walking . . . I love Robert Duvall, Tommie Lee Jones, Jackie Chan . . . I do like A&E's Pride and Prejudice (watch that, and then re-watch Bridget Jones' Diary . . . enlightening) and To Kill a Mockingbird. There are more, but you get the idea.

Television:

Law and Order, Heroes. What I don't like: Lifetime, TLC, Disney.

Books:

Cry the Beloved Country; Mere Christianity; The Source; Passage to India; heck - I can't list them. I love anything by Watchman Nee, Lewis Thomas, Dietrich Bonhoeffer,Brennan Manning, Andrew Murray, Donald Miller and associates, etc. I like books about medical anthropology, missions (Christian or not), poetry, I tend to like Spanish authors but not so much Russian authors, I like to read Mother Jones and the New Yorker . . . but I disagree with most all that they say. The writing is just better than that of those whose opinions I match.

Heroes:

Alphonse Kayriganga, Hudson Taylor, Count Zinzendorf, Peter and Ann Pretorius, The Boydstun Family, Gladys Alward, George Muller, Nikie Fleming, Peter, all those who've lived and died for what they believe . . . Hebrews 11 . . . and did it even though they did not receive the promise . . .
