CHIPPER, that is Mike Chipperini, is at present a free-lance harp player. Recently of the Massachusetts band, Hoodoo Revelator. He is now in the process of forming another band. His signature tune, Chipper’s Boogie (recorded with Hoodoo) has been heard on major radio stations around Boston, across the United States, and abroad.
HE first picked up the harp at age 15 when an older friend starting playing one. Impressed by the sound of an instrument so small, Chipper and long time friend Glen Asaro, began getting weekly informal lessons from their friend and harp mentor, Pete Auditore (now in California).
AFTER many years of playing on and off and gracing the stages of Korea and Germany along with local stages in Massachusetts, Chipper decided to get serious. Playing out as much as he could to better his chops, he met guitarist Jim Chilson, who was playing with Shaky Deal. The two formed Hoodoo Revelator which met with considerable local success. However, the distances between band members proved to be too much, placing a strain on rehearsal times among other things. Chipper chose to exit the band in April 2007 to pursue a more amicable project. As he says, "I went out on top, playing in front of fellow Firefighters, friends, and family!"
NOW he’s recruiting players to form a Boston-area rocking-blues band. More to come on this. "
What their saying:!"
(Do Me Right) is laced with harmonica hooks from Mike Chipperini. And what’s cool about Chipperini’s blues harp is that he lays back and contributes rhythm." -Chip Withgrow, The Muse’s Muse!"
"Do Me Right is uptempo blues/rock punctuated by Chipperini’s fine harp playing . . . and Chipperini’s blazing harp attack on "Chipper’s Boogie." -Metronome Magazine!"
"Master harp player. . . " -Noise Magazine

A Bit Of Fun With James Montgomery

Back in the day when harps were a mere few dollars and yours truly was learning how to handle the little beast, my influences were mainly Magic Dick and James Montgomery. Of course Dickie had J. Giels...
