The Tangle

The Tangle hails from the muddy banks of New Orleans, but the rising tides brought them to Austin, TX. Not a bad transition for the band, moving from the "Big Easy" to "The Live Music Capital of the World." LEAD VOCALS/RHYTHM BASS-DARCY MALONE BOYE: Being that she comes from such a musical family, Darcy has been singing all of her life; and also has dabbled in piano, guitar, and bass. She has played with local New Orleans groups such as The Radiators, the Boondoggles, the Theresa Anderson Group, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, and the Pfister Sisters. She is also a member of the annual group The Chilluns. She grew up singing blues and jazz, and loves incorporating that into an original rock sound. GUITAR/VOCALS-CHRIS BOYE: Chris' unique guitar playing adds an interesting element to the band. He has had many other projects throughout his career, most stemming from his partnership in Second Nature Skate Park, but none of them could produce the "melting of styles" quality that has infected his writing. Being that he and Darcy are the prominent songwriters of the group, Chris possesses talent not just on the guitar,but he also sings as much as possible, and compliments Darcy well with his own individual style. LEAD BASS-RYAN FRANSISCO: Ryan has been playing the bass guitar for over nine years; and plays a varying ensemble of grunge, rock , funk, blues, and jazz sometimes even in the same song. When Chris, Darcy, and Stephen were in dire need of a bass player, they knew that he would have to have the creativity to tangle up all the sounds from the "greats," to fill an enormous void within the band. Known as the "lead bassist," he compliments Chris' style perfectly. DRUMS-STEPHEN BOYE: Folk music has always been the true passion for Stephen, ever since returning to guitar on the outskirts of Houston, but Chris wouldn't let his brother leave his side. After being introduced to the drums, no one could get the sticks out of his hands. Staying with his song-writing roots, Stephen creates solid, original, catchy grooves with strange timing, as heard on "Double as a Fake". Our influences include Debbie Harry, Etta James, The Pixies, Chrissy Hines, Billie Holiday, Dinosaur Junior, The Pixies, Califone, Dif Juz, Tortoise, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Devendra Bandhart, Ween, Television, Sam Prekop, The Beatles, and many more. RHYTHM GUITAR/VOCALS-MERCEDES MANCILLAS: The newest addition to the group, originally from San Francisco, Mercedes adds a dynamic flair to the group that they have been searching for. With her Stevie Nicks Sound, her voice just the right touch to the three part harmony created by herself, Darcy and Chris, not to monetion, full guitar sounds, and over all panache. Hearing her solo work sealed the deal for the rest of the band. The Tangle was now complete.
