1982... 13 years old... When I put my hands & ears on that classic album by IRON MAIDEN entitled "The Number Of The Beast" I didn't know my life would know such a big change... IRON MAIDEN was definitely the very first band to introduce me to Heavy-Metal - sure I knew KISS before but their "disco" hit "I Was Made For Loving You" was not really fuckin'metal, rather for the dance-floor kids hehe.. What a shock !!! ! Already the artwork was terrible & impressive to me but nothing compared to the songs themselves ! The hammering "Invaders", the epic "Hallowed Be Thy Name", the headbanging "Run To The Hills" and... the tremendous "The Number Of The beast" itself and those spoken words... It was like the Horned King himself was speaking in the stereo ! Then came other bands like AC/DC, Judas Priest, Trust, Saxon, Motörhead, Mercyful Fate, Girlschool, Rock Goddess, Black Sabbath and the almighty VENOM which was a real fist in face when they released the "Black Metal" album back in the same year... they put the limits further... Chains, leather, bullets & hellish attitudes... my fate was sealed... I was damned to be a HEAVY-METAL MANIAC !!! From this day on, my heart has always been consumed by metallic riffs, chainsaw guitarz, bulldozer bass, thundering drums & infernal vocals !!!
It seems even if I'm now an old bastard that I've been really lucky to be born in 1969 'cos I lived many very important changes & revolutions in the metal world : the birth of the godly french heavy-metal wave with killer bands like H-BOMB, ADX, SORTILEGE, VULCAIN, etc... the thrash-metal era with METALLICA, DEATH ANGEL, TESTAMENT, ANTHRAX, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, VOIVOD, SLAYER, KREATOR, SODOM, POSSESSED, LIVING DEATH, DEATHROW, EXCITER, EXODUS, ONSLAUGHT... the Black-Metal apparition with VENOM the almighty, CELTIC FROST the emperor, HELLHAMMER, BATHORY ... The Death-Metal tsunami with DEATH, ENTOMBED, CARCASS, MORBID ANGEL, NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER, PESTILENCE, ASPHYX... Those bands are still all very important to me today... And I really can't find in the nowadays metal what they brought to me at that time... The time was different, the feelings & attitudes were different ! That was coming from the Heart and the Spirit was true ! Nowadays, I really feel all this is lost... most of the current bands are too well-polished, you can't find that instinctive aspect the old ones had.. except for a few that are really rooted in the old-school metal sound of course... These are still the ones that make my heart beat... and the ones I'm giving my total support to through my label called INFERNO Records...
