HISTORY
Radikal Records was launched in 1990 and quickly established itself as the top techno and dance label in America, documented by a host of awards. For the next five years, Radikal released singles at a frantic pace, yet managed to maintain its high level of success with hit after hit by artists such as 2 Unlimited, Apotheosis, Urban Cookie Collective, Rozalla, N-Trance, and Fatboy Slim's alter ego Pizzaman, to name but a small few.
Radikal also revived the long dormant dance compilation format, first with its Radikal Techno series (selling hundreds of thousands of CDs to true club music fans without the help of ANY radio support), and the hit driven Dance Mix USA series which racked up sales of well over 4 million units with it's first four volumes.
Radikal Records was also first in its use of TV commercials and infomercials to bring quality dance music to the masses - a move even Time Magazine took note of - with the Dance Mix USA series of infomercials. Radikal truly opened the floodgates for the onslaught of compilation albums in the late 90's and provided the blueprint for the tremendously successful NOW! That's What I Call Music compilation concept.
Suddenly, to the shock of it's many fans, Radikal Records went on hiatus in 1996. After more than 300 releases, the company needed a break to refocus itself. A lack of exciting musical trends in the USA and Europe made the decision easier. With the emergence of the commercial trance scene in Europe, things started to look up, and by the end of 1998, the label got ready for a re-launch.
In the spring of 1999, Radikal Records emerged from a much needed rest and instantly landed a major success with N-Trance's remake of Rod Stewart's "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?". Soon thereafter, Germany's ATB signed with the once again hot US label for release of his European monster hits "9pm" and "Don't Stop" off of his debut hit album "Movin' Melodies". Less than 2 years after it's relaunch, Radikal had recaptured the crown as America's Top Independent Dance Label topping Billboard Magazine's 2000 Year End Chart Issue.
Such success did not go unnoticed and attracted many of the best and biggest European dance acts to Radikal Records. Gold and platinum artists such as Blank & Jones, Mauro Picotto, Underdog Project, Cosmic Gate, Brooklyn Bounce and Schiller all chose Radikal as their American home.
Radikal then went on to introduce America to such diverse dance pop crossover hits as "Kernkraft 400" by Zombie Nation which has gone on to sports anthem status, "Spente Le Stelle" by Opera Trance, "Troy(The Phoenix From The Flame)" by Sinead O'Connor which was her first ever dance offering, "Like A Prayer" by Mad'house, "Blood Is Pumping" by Voodoo & Serano which was prominently featured in the movie Blade 2, "Outa Space" by Mellow Trax", "Let The Sun Shine" by Milk & Sugar which reached Number 1 on the Billboard Club Chart and was recently featured in K-Mart commercials, and the list goes on...
Radikal Records has released another 300 titles since it's relaunch 7 years ago and continues to remain America's home for fine European dance music.
