GKTH
Influences: Kevin B.: (coming soon)
Doug C.: love, lust, spite, and alcohol
Alex S.: showing up other bands
Sounds Like: Drums beaten forcefully with skill, growly "million bucks" bass, some simple hard rock gee-tar, one guy with a nice voice, and one guy who screams a lot. Take all of this and turn it up louder than most anybody you have ever (or will ever) see live, and you've got GKTH.
Comparisons:
The overall sound and song structure of GKTH can be likened most to June of 44 (particularly our earlier work), Shellac (moreso on our newer material), and Table (another three-piece rock band from Chicago. Go figure.). The stage volume ranks with that of The Melvins. Doug's vocals have been likened to those of Michael Gerald (Killdozer) and sound a little bit like Jim Marburger's vocals on the I Hate Myself song "Drama in the Emergency Room". Alex says Doug's guitar reminds him of Joe McRedmond and Al Dunham (Hoover, collectively, The Crownhate Ruin and Regulator Watts, respectively). Doug can't quite hear it, but he is flattered. A few of Doug's favorite guitarists within GKTH's genre include John Reis and Rick Froberg (Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu, and Hot Snakes), Erik Denno and Jim Wall (Kerosene 454), Joe McRedmond and Al Dunham (Hoover, collectively, The Crownhate Ruin and Regulator Watts, respectively), Steve Albini (Big Black, Rapeman, Shellac), Jeff Mueller (Rodan, June of 44, Shipping News), Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto (Fugazi), and David Grubbs ( Bastro, Gastr Del Sol). A few of Alex's favorite drummers are John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Todd Trainer (Shellac), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and QOTSA, among others), and Damon Che (Don Cabellero). Kevin enjoys a few of the usual suspects, Bob Weston (Shellac)and Michael Bishop (Kepone), but is inspired by Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel) and Nate Mendel (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Fire Theft).
