MEMPHIS LADIES...and their Boys!

E' da una vita che ascoltando i maschietti far del Rock'n'Roll mi dicevo: "Uffa! Voglio divertirmi anch'io! Basta a far la cantante in paillettes, sdraiata sul pianoforte, col pianista ubriaco...!" Pensa oggi, pensa domani, ad un certo punto ho iniziato a parlarne in giro. E poi gira che ti rigira, parla che ti riparla, spunta ILEANA DI CAMILLO: "Canto con te!". Ed io:"Certo!". Ma cantare R'n'R "a cappella", in due...Ci volevano delle musiciste. E qui la questione si è fatta complicata: mi duole dirlo, ma, perlomeno a Roma, le suddette sono pochissime, quasi niente, ed a far questo genere, forse nessuna... Fatto sta che alla fine, dopo essermi scervellata e spremuta (e magari quasi depressa!), mi son detta:"Mancano le GIRLS che suonano? Echissene! I BOYS, vanno benissimo I BOYS!!!". Guarda di qua e guarda di là, parla con colleghi musicisti, amici oggi, chiedi domani, et voilà! I BOYS: DANIELE DE SALVO, MAX FORESTIERI, ANDREA FIORELLI, DINO GUBINELLI, RICCARDO COLASANTE, ALBERTO BOTTA ed altri musicisti aspiranti boys. Bravi, simpatici, ornamentali! Perfetti e contenterrimi di suonare con noi, per Voi! Altra idea: usare diverse formazioni, con diversi musicisti. Il risultato: suonano più persone, il gruppo va sempre avanti assumendo ora un gusto più R'n'R, ora più Rockabilly, a seconda del momento... Io ed Illy sempre le vocalist per tutte le occasioni. Ovviamente! Che ne pensiamo delle MEMPHIS e dei BOYS? Sfavilliamo e sbrilluccichiamo tutti in coro! Eppoi ci divertiamo e siamo supercalifragilistichespiralidos... Non vorrei che sembrasse che ci vantiamo...ma, forse, beh! SI', VANTIAMOCI! ...Inoltre, con questa crisi, per noi musici, è tosta, e, fra di noi c'è chi ci campa famiglia...e...beh, Vi prego, fatelo almeno per i bambini!!! For a long, long time I was looking at boys playing Rock’n’Roll, and getting so much fun! I was thinking about me: for all my life, laying on a piano, in paillettes and pearls, singing, with a drunk pianist… So boring…One day I awaked up! Ugh! Why can’t girls play R’n’R music as boys do?! Enough is enough! I want a rock’n’roll band! I started looking around to find some other girls to realize my dream…One day I met ILEANA DI CAMILLO. She said: “ I like it! I sing with you!”. I answered: “All right, baby, let’s look for the musicians.” As a matter of fact, in Rome (a marvellous city!), it’s not very easy to find musicians which are girls. They are so few, end usually they don’t play this stuff at all. It hurts me, but it’s the mere truth! So I went on thinking and thinking, asking for, turning around…I was getting old!!! No GIRLS? It doesn’t matter, I don’t wanna be a nit-picker! Let’s get in the BOYS! Et- voilà!: The BOYS: DANIELE DE SALVO, MAX FORESTIERI, ANDREA FIORELLI, DINO GUBINELLI, RICK COLASANTE, ALBERTO BOTTA…a host of BOYS! Great musicians, handsome and “ornamental”, amusing guys, so glad to play with us and…for YOU! In a word: there are perfect! Another peculiarity of this band: a couple of different ensembles. The “taste” of the show get more Rock’n’Roll or more Rockabilly, dependently of the musicians that are taking part in the event. ILLY and I, we never fail a show! Obviously! How about the look?...We are stylish people, of course! What does the Memphis Ladies and their Boys think about “MEMPHIS LADIES…and their BOYS”? We are “shining all together”! We enjoy so much! We are supercalifragilistichespiralidosi!!! We are best, the… the…! Are we bragging too much? Maybe, baby (uh-hu!)… Moreover, the Nation is getting through a sump. It’s so hard to carry on…The musicians with their families and their children (they are so many, so many! How many?…Too many!), looking for a piece of brown bread, playing at the corners of the street, under the snow (SNOW? In Rome???…), and… Well, let’s get it over!
