Someone pronounced hiphop dead in the midst of a code; but while everyone had given up, trying to pass off feel good music for real good music, like a medicinal Phoenix, this hip hop artist decided it was time for action, resuscitate & bring back that FiYaH. Slimgutta’s in the kitchen & hot spittin’ is the recipe. The South has had the mic in its palm for some time now, but Slim’s music isn’t locational or seasonal, this here is living music, adapting to time, but not swaying to fads that the industry succumbs to.
The first half of his name gives his physical description, the second describes his swagger. But the way Gutta’ gets on the mic, you’re visualization of his physique is the last thing you’re thinking of. He describes himself as the young boss, so he’s already claiming positions, but its not about claims, its where he’s aiming and Gutta’s aim is on point.
When listening to his music, for a second you may think that there is nothing that differentiates this artist from the rest, but that thought is long gone because you’re continuing to listen. On ‘you know how I feel,’ you get a glimpse into Slim’s way of thinking, why he’s thinking it, and why you’ll be left thinking too. Born in Bahamas and growing up in Miami left Slim with an experience to be reckoned with, his bars are ridden with it. Slim started out at the age of nine banging on the walls of his home; I guess that’s why they say even walls have ears because someone was listening. In an era where hiphop had found its calling Slim knew he could take his music to different levels. He recorded his first song on a tape recorder.
Deciding to take his music seriously was an object of fascination for SG, and being mentored through the airways by Jay Z enabled him to make moves. Knowing that he had a gift, made he decide to make his presence known; serious paper was to be made. At age 13 Slim took his craft to local talent shows; constantly trying to perfect his gift, he used this vice to keep him out of trouble. Influenced by a myriad of artists seeing everyone making paper for the same gifts he possessed, it was time to continue the take over and allow the world to beckon to his sound. We’ve all heard that before though. Everyone has a story, Slim Gutta’s just has amp to it.
