Hi All! Thank you for finding my page among the millions of fantastic musicians. Really hope you are enjoying my songs..? Would love you to sign up to my mailing list so I can let you know about gigs & my new releases!
I’m a London singer/songwriter with Irish roots from my Dad, Welsh roots from my Mum and British ones somewhere in between. I’ve been playing the piano since I was 5 and exasperating my 3 siblings by constantly singing "before I could talk" according to my Dad. I first realised I had a knack for writing songs when my first composition - a Christmas Carol - was adopted into my school choir’s repertoire after an encouraging Music teacher heard my efforts. Solo performances followed throughout school and at 18, I toured the Eastern coasts of Canada and the USA with some great choirs, including appearances on US TV and radio. It was an amazing experience! My musical break came when I was in France studying and was out clubbing one night (like any good student!). I was singing along in this club when the DJ overheard me and said I should come for an audition. The next thing I knew I was recording as a vocalist for a French label. My ’epiphany’ to pursue a musical life took place in the recording studio’s vocal booth - I just thought ’this is what I’ve got to do!’
THE ALBUM
When I returned to London to concentrate on music, record label interest led to me signing with an Independent label. However, the deal was short lived and I left due to artistic differences, choosing to start over and go solo. After a few years recovering(!) I was fortunate to have an amazing opportunity in 2007.
I recorded my debut album with the brilliant Rupert Cobb (Snow Patrol, Kasabian, Damien Rice, Ray LaMontagne) with whom I had previously worked. He and his wonderful team took me under their wing and I happily spent 2007 cramming recording sessions at the Sussex studio into every possible weekend while juggling a job in London. It was an amazing experience! The album gradually started coming together and ’Saint for a Sinner’ was finally born.
’Saint for a Sinner’ is a collection of heartfelt, honest, real-life experiences, observations and stories which I hope will both move and inspire you. In the album, I feel I have truly found my sound; one that combines the intimacy and honesty of the song writing, whilst the vocals sit happily above the layers of live musicianship beneath. My wonderful acoustic guitarist, Matt Marks, co-wrote 4 of the 12 album songs with me. These upbeat guitar based songs lend a contrast to my traditional piano led ballads. Thanks to Rupert’s expert touch and a bevy of outstanding musicians such as Tristan Banks (Turin Brakes, Brand New Heavies), Roger Carey, Andy Williams and Peter Van Hooke (Van Morrison, Dr.John) the album is testament to the talent behind it.
My piano/guitar led songs have been described as ’Chic pop’ by Alex Jones-Donelly, BBC Radio 1’s Head of Music and an industry A&R has described me as ’Kate Bush for the Noughties’ - a hard title to live up to indeed!
