From the day Kelseylee arrived in the United States in 1987, a chronicle began to unfold. Being adopted from Seoul, South Korea into her family “is nothing short of an incredible blessing,” as Kelsey notes that she has also “- -been so blessed with nothing less than the best- a family that has been endlessly supportive and energizing,”. She was raised in Kennewick, Washington- and attended a private pre-school, and attended public school thereafter. Her father and mother have always known she would have a nitch in the entertainment industry. “Kelsey was 13 months old when she started walking- and taking spotlight in the living room; she’s always used her voice, most prominently just shortly after she began walking, and by age five she was reading words like Aspartine on the labels of food in the store!” Ironically, Kelseylee is also entwined in the fitness industry, where label reading becomes second nature. "We’ve always known she was bound to entertain; she’s always enjoyed being in the spotlight- whether it was on a horse in the show ring, on stage, or simply the living room.” Kelseylee’s dedication will also be an element to her success, “Once she found a focus that interested her, she became very perseverant.”
Kelseylee’s first lead singing production was in the third grade starring in the heart-warming children’s musical “The Littlest Christmas Tree”, where she had been chosen for the leading soloist role as the “littlest Christmas tree”, coming on top of several other very talented young performers. Her first significant drama production was Columbia Basin College’s production of “Frankenstein” at age six- and a very small six at that. Many theatrical productions were to follow, musicals, dramas and film.
The Littlest Christmas Tree and Frankenstein were only beginnings of what will be a lifetime of performing. As said by a friend, “Kelsey’s entire life could be a performance! She’s so carefully watched by everyone in our home town. We go out and she draws in the crowd. She moves away and is still a focus. It’s kind of the circling joke that if ‘Kelseylee Friggin Fleming’ was a reality show the ratings would be great- because when you have so much going on that is so good in every aspect, of course you’re going to be so closely scrutinized. Of course you’re going to be talked about. Everyone’s going to want to be a part of it...”
Kelseylee doesn’t want any down time- “I might be in the fast lane, maybe not, but I am pretty young- eighteen [2005]... I took advantage of the Running Start program, jumped into college when I was sixteen, because I had the opportunity and wasn’t going to let it slip away. I’m almost done with my two year degree, but that’s not where my education will end! Just like this career I’m pursuing- I can’t dink around if I want to make it, the ball’s rolling, and I don’t want it to stop. If an audition comes my way- I’m there, if I get more studio time- I’m there! The opportunities are here, and I have every intention of taking them.”
Aside from following her dreams, Kelseylee is doing a tremendous amount of activity for a full time college student. “When people discover my interests and hobbies, ‘I never would have guessed,’ is the typical response.” She has always been, and remains, avidly involved with scads of hobbies, including but not limited to: training and showing horses; anti-equine slaughter movement; entrepreneurship; youth church ministries; dance; cheerleading; fitness/figure competitions; spokes-modeling and print modeling. Her plate has always been full- and it doesn’t appear that the load will become lighter any time soon. “I plan to break into the entertainment industry and bring in an entirely different interpretation of the scene than what’s already been developed. We need to ditch the sex, kill the cattiness and pull some organic, wholesome entertainment in. Where’s the substance? I’m going to bring something to the table that fits into the ‘mainstream’ category, while using my music as a tool for witnessing my passion for Jesus Christ and the finer things in life. I won’t be singing Gospel music, but the message in my lyrics surely won’t be hyping up irrelevant, materialistic and arrogant things. I’ve really begun to learn what is important in life, and what is not. I want to give that wisdom to everyone, and I’ll be able to through my music. However, singing won’t be the only kernel in my regimen- acting, modeling and singing all seem to come hand in hand. I’ve been noted as a Triple Threat... The entire entertainment industry is practically on steroids- it just keeps growing!”
Independence has also always been important to Kelseylee. She moved into her own Villa two days after her eighteenth birthday in 2005, and seven months later moved to Bellevue, Washington to start fresh at Bellevue Community College, be closer to her acting and singing coaches, and take a maturing step into her dreams. “Pretty sure I’m a city-cowgirl, definition: a small town girl with big city dreams! Moving to Bellevue was real spontaneous. One day I woke up and told myself I was done- done with the distractions that were holding me back from becoming who I’m supposed to be. We all have skeletons in our closets, we all have stories- but my closet was getting cluttered and those skeletons kept trying to protrude back into my life. I have been through a degree of experience that is simply abnormal for someone of my age, and God’s direction for my future is polar opposite of anything my past wants for me. Now I can stay focused, the distractions are hundreds of miles away, and I’m ready to take on the world!”
Not only will her ambition and ability to prove herself as talented help Kelsey break through the industry, her personality will indefinitely play a lead role. “She’s toxic and contagious. Period.” Stated a friend of 7 years. “She’s charming and funny, and good-hearted! She’s just good!”, claims a former co-worker. “I’ve never seen so much dedication and heart packed into such a small person.” Declared another close friend. She may only be about five feet tall, but her heart is big, “I really want to be the change in the world that I want to see– and yes that was quoted by Gandhi. I’m just so torn apart by how seriously Earth has become lost in the World.” If Kelsey could take over the title ‘Supergirl’, she would. Apparently she has her own heroes as well, “I have heroes, and I love them- God, and my family... My parents are unbelievable! They’ve been so supportive- and I know that sounds cliche, but they truly have. Emotionally, and especially financially. I want to compensate and provide them the way they have always done for me. They know I love and appreciate them, but they deserve to know I respect them and their expenses just as much.”
What can we expect to come from this rising talent? She has already proved to be very dynamic, so her debut album will probably be just that. “My music has the quality of being a collaboration of positive messages, emotions, and a multitude of life situations.” It is foreseeable that Kelseylee will not let go of her dreams until they are obtained, and is utilizing the tools given to her to reach them.
