Some cat called me the Kerouac of rap

About Me

I am a laid back, creative cat who is constantly trying to reinvent the wheel. After 12 plus years of being a recording artist I love to make music but it is so much like a job that I don't enjoy it as much as I once did. I keep a pen and notebook with me at all times and have to plead guilty to the fact that I write while driving. To help maintain my sanity and as an escape from the business of show, I like to paint and write short stories that I have no intention of putting a price tag on or attaching a marketing plan to.I also DJ, make beats and write for other artists. I am an obsessive collector with a massive collection of sneakers, old vinyl records and action figures. (who do you know with a Tupac action figure?)I love to travel and am on the road quite a bit, my three favorite places to visit are: Miami, Amsterdam and Calica, Mexico.I am hoping for a long period of downtime so I can travel from New York to California via Amtrak train. ( a little case of wanderlust?)Currently I am writing and recording my next record, as yet untitled, the follow up to 2004's Rough Grooves Surface.(Google search: Tree Thirteen for more info on the last album)

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Tree Thirteen is Tree Turner -- the rhyme master, and DJ 007-- the programmer, arranger and producer on the ones and twos. Their sound was home grown in Chicago, the illegitimate love child of Hip Hop and ???
Influences: influenced by old-school house music and inspired by a crate filled with an eclectic mix of artists like Chocolate Genius, Jim Morrison, Nirvana, Ice Cube, Slick Rick, Bob Marley, Fishbone, Bob Dylan and Tribe Called Quest, to name a few. Described by some as Hip Hop all grown up, their unique sound vibes with the Neo Soul and Alternative flow of Mos Def, Common and the Roots, to the mainstream sound of Nelly, 50 Cents and Busta Rhymes. The duo’s first album, Rough Grooves Surface was released in 2004 by a Chicago-based independent record label. Produced by two-time Grammy Award-winner Jim Tullio, the album features 2005 Grammy Award winners Los Lonely Boys; Foley (Prince, Miles Davis) on bass and baciground vocals; Matt Walker (Filter, Smashing Pumpkins) on drums; and legendary guitarist Harvey Mandel (Rolling Stones, Canned Heat).
Sounds Like: Imagine the music of some of your favorite artists that span genres from Hip Hop and Rock to Jazz and R&B. Now imagine that music masterfully fused and blended with lyrics invoked from the soul - a cool-like-that narrative all up in your business, conjuring favorite memories like “man, remember when we used to…” The penetrating beats beckon your deepest groove with rhymes that focus less on money and bling-bling, but instead pay tribute to the every day slices of life -- from nothing and everything -- a bag of chips, hope and a wet dream. That’s Tree Thirteen.............The album’s debut single, Stupid Little Games hit the charts right out the gate. The single was listed on American Music Scene’s “New and Promising” Pick Hits chart and earned a spot on the R&R CHR/Pop Top 40 charts. The duo came in at No. 7 for most added, tied with Ashlee Simpson and Terror Squad, beating out Nelly and Christina Aguilera. The single continued to receive “most added” recognition along with “most increased plays,” topping out at 181 spins in only a few months.Rough Grooves Surface is a richly diverse offering of songs featuring a classic Hip Hop backdrop with the organic energy of live instruments overlaid to create a genre all its own. From the bluesy, down south, back porch rhythms of Junkie Poet Hustler which spotlights the captivating sound of an acoustic guitar, to Codebreaker’s fierce melody that is quick to flip the script and transform the listener to a hip, swanky lounge straight out of an old Bond flick, Tree Thirteen (NEED TO FINISH THIS ENDING) ............................
