Gary Goldschneider has been a professional musician since 1953. While studying classical piano with David Sokoloff in Philadelphia and attending West Philadelphia High School he played with various bands until attending the University of Pennsylvia. There he joined the Pennsylvania Six-Pence, a dixieland band that played Carnegie Hall, Jimmy Ryan's in New York, the Elbow Beach Surf Club in Bermuda, toured Europe and recorded as The Saints with Westminster Records.
He made his classical debut after study with Agi Jambor at the Ethical Society on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia in 1966. He was made Professor and Head of the Music Department at Philadelphia Community College in 1968.
Gary has played recitals and concerts all over the world including Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Holland, France, New Zealand, California, the East Coast and England.
At his Beethoven Marathon concerts he plays all 32 piano sonatas of Beethoven in one day, usually from 12 noon to 12 midnite. He also performs the 18 piano sonatas of Mozart in one 6 hour concert. These concerts are designed to give the both classical and non-classical audiences the chance to experience the creative evolution of these composers, to live through their musical lives in a few hours.
Gary loves to play chamber music with other musicians. Also to improvise free music.
As composer, Gary writes symphonies, concertos, operas, songs and instrumental music. His opera Call Me Ishmael was premiered in Amsterdam at the City Theater on May 30, 2004.
