About Me

well... lets see, I am a funny male soul, kind to all and help everyone who is in need (no really, i get called at 3am sometimes giving advice to my friends) I am a DJ, which I really enjoy. What else... I enjoy reading, and writing, and my stuff is really poetic hehe ;) yes yes that will do for now...
Below is about my DJ'ing side of myself...
Judge-Mental began his DJ'ing career after he started going to Deviate in his home town, Cape Town in South Africa during 1993. He fell in love with the place immediately!
It was at Deviate that he met his mentor Greg, who in turn pushed him and all his potential to greater heights. In the early years, the duo played clubs like the Boilerroom, Loft, G-Spot and many more ...
Judge-Mental was originally big on Trance, then all the old classics from his days at Deviate. He even delved with Gabba, followed by more House orientated tracks like: Advances – Suggestive (the first tune he bought), Dreams - Quench and Alex Party - Read my lips. But he soon found himself confused by what to play ...
But the confusion did not last long and he soon dicovered his style, Happy hardcore. And so he started collecting and spinning those tunes, which he loved, and so did many people that heard him. After that came Old Skool, which is basically as raw as you can get.
Full of breaks, beeps, samples and bleeps. The last two styles have stuck with him, Happy hardcore and Old skool. But with the local scene demanding more House, Judge-Mental’s sets were getting fewer because of his refusal to change.
It was only in 2001 that his career took another turn, and he opened up his closed mind. All this thanks to DJ Syntrax with the latter stressing that if he wanted more sets, he would have to adapt or die …
So a difficult choice was made, a difficult one, and started buying hard house and hard trance records. The result was more sets and more exposure. His name started to appear on more flyers and his climb to the top has only just begun.
Judge-Mental has had a lot of sets since changing his style (although he still squeezes in some hardcore tunes and old skool in his sets to honour the earlier rave days ...
He is now also doing wonderful CD reviews for Thunda.com
