The Carpet Mafia

About Me

With Pretzelplex Bohemia, the Carpet Mafia have challenged themselves to bring an authentic live jam feel into a studio album. They've enhanced their sound with high-end production, additional instrumentation and collaborative composition in an effort to deliver a variety of rich musical textures.Recorded, mixed & mastered at LMX studios in Constantia, this 68 minute / fourteen track debut album includes guest vocal and instrumental performances by HC, Julio Siguaque (freshlyground), Nhosa Sitsholwama (Alanfunk), Jabba (Napalma), Galina Juritz (Mama Know Nothing), Ben Badenhorst, Ben Amato and more.Included in the group's original repertoire is a healthy array of genres, from roots reggae to rock & roll, blues to cuassa-cuassa, even the odd Russian jig. From this extensive live repertoire, the band has fused, mixed and experimented to further engage the audience with this album. Major Carpet Mafia influences include Pink Floyd, the Allman Brothers, Toots & the Maytals, Frank Zappa, the Police and many, many more. The Carpet Mafia are all proudly South African resident foreigners, with 4 members from the US, Mozambique, Portugal and Switzerland. Formally established at the beginning of 2005, the band has played shows at Obzfest, Mannenbergs, Festival of Lights, Hermanus Whale Festival, Zula, Rafiki's, ROOTS, toured Mozambique and released two live albums independently, BOOTLEG UNO & DEUCE.
