Have you even seen Star Wars? If anyone's Han, it's me.

About Me

My time is primarily occupied by family, school, writing, dreaming of joining the circus, and roller derby. I take great rewards from simple things. I collect music, tattoos, stories, LIFE magazines from the 40's and 50's, music memorabilia, Elvis sh*t, vintage Americana, fortunes from cookies, half-emptied jars of hair-dye, religious artifacts (statues of Buddha, prayer rugs with Jesus on them, 3-D pictures of the Pope waving hello from the Vatican, etc.), disembodied heads of various compositions, wine bottle corks and a host of other shit I need to get rid of one of these days... *******************************************I skate women's flat track roller derby with the BorderTown Brawlers of the Bellingham Roller Betties. Pivoting is my fave, but I'll knock you over if I'm blocking just the same... If you are close to us, and into derby we want to hear from you! www.bellinghamrollerbetties.com

My Interests

I think that can be summed up with the all-inclusive, ever-elusive term "art." In particular, though, I write prose and spoken word poetry; I am in love with language; I play the upright bass; I enjoy reading, hiking, cooking; I am always working on my next DIY project (this is complete bullshit--unless, of course, you count the DIY DERBY project that infected my brain two years ago, and is holding steady); I am never without music; I dig roller-derby action and riding my old school electra beach cruiser (her name's Black Betty, and she is hot!!!), and I spend a lot of time getting tattooed (also a lie. My artist moved a while back, and I only get to see her once in a while. Besides, I need to reserve some space for the future...).

I'd like to meet:

I am interested in people who are interesting, and who maybe, just maybe, dig the shit I dig. Last but not least, I'd like to meet you... at my next bout! .

Music:

... is always playing--that way I have a soundtrack to my life! Everything psycho and rockabilly, old country, jazz, blues, tiki lounge, Elvis and otherwise swingin' stuff, folk rock, ragtime, ska, hillbilly jug bands, angry instrument wielding female vocalists, politically motivated hip-hop, doo wop, surf, reggae... There isn't much I can't get down to. Anything goes as long as it has heart. I grew up punk rock, though, and that is something that never really goes away once it's inside--so you will always find some Misfits, NOFX, Descendents, Social Distortion, Dead Milkmen, Bad Religion, Black Flag, or Fugazi readily available when we hang out. .

Movies:

When I have time to watch them, I usually fall asleep. I love everything John Waters, I think documentaries are rad, I love indie films, and find cheesy John Cusack movies among my very faves... .

Television:

Not a big fan of the tube... It breeds illiteracy. READ A FUCKING BOOK!

Books:

Anything out of the amazing group of Nuyorican Poets; anything by Tom Robbins, Saul Williams, ee cummings, Sylvia Plath, Sherman Alexie, Virginia Woolf, James Baldwin, Gary Snyder, Ticht Naht Hahn... This list could run into infinity... .

Heroes:

The educated rebels throughout history and of today; roller girls, and those who support them; hard-working single moms; people giving the system the finger; and those making positive life changes for themselves in consideration of the ever-changing world facing us all.

My Blog

the written word...

So a few months back I hear about the Women's Center up at the University, and that they are accepting submissions for their annual publication, Labyrinth. I submitted a piece that is structured like ...

Hoo-fuckin-rah!!!

It is the middle of the day, and everyone I know is consumed in some grown-up pursuit (working, school, doctor's appointments, etc)... So I have to put this here: I just got a letter from Western Wash...

What's in a name?

When my eldest son asked me when he could have my husband's--his stepfather's--last name, I cried. After making plans to change the last name of my youngest (his biological father being another&n...

Down and Derby: The story of a bastard child.

?Once upon a time, the wild and vibrantly costumed spirit of the World Wrestling Federation mated with the bonafide athletic ability of the all-powerful woman. From this chance mixing of grueling...

The end is near....

It appears as though my Summer is quickly waning. School starts again on the 18th, and it's back to the grind for me. I am looking forward to it though, because, while this three month hiatus has been...

It's a good thing the Devil and I are on a first name basis...

Because the bastard has come for as visit. It is not even ten o'clock, and it's over eighty degrees... Not that it is a bad thing, but here in the Pacific Northwest that is the equivelant of standing...

Who's it gonna be??? Mad Marge or Murder City Devils....

So, luck would have it that I live in an area prone to having great music all the time... Truthfully, I don't enjoy it as frequently as I probably should, and I will most likely kick my own ass for it...

What the hell is with today?

My list of shitty Friday circumstances thus far: 1. Brian (that would be my husband) gets in car accident, twenty minutes after I send him out the door with his misfits lunchbox and a bottle...

On the up and up

Thank fucking god. The demons have been exercised! The last two days have been hellacious-- but today I finally feel a bit better. The fourth sucked; still went up on the roof, but no PBR... Too sick...

Sick as shit and over it....

As of today (tomorrow is a holiday, right?) I am officially encumbered by the heat of fever, and feeling like I may just die. It figures, as tomorrow is the fourth... I can't lay claims to being&...
