Adrian Garcia "A-train"

Adrian Garcia is a songwriter, arranger, composer (of sorts), musician and band leader. Born in Bridgeport CT and raised between Puerto Rico and Central PA, it is very easy to hear the cultural synergies of these two worlds come together through his playing. Adrian or A-train as many of his friends call him (more on that later), began playing at eight years of age. During that time Herb Alberts "live" was all the rage and its all he needed to hear to realize what he was destined to play. Through the years he has participated in all types of musical formats including drum corps.At the age of 17 he joined the first of many salsa bands that he would play with called Sabor Latino (Latin Flavor), where he was lead trumpet and assisted in the musical arrangements. The list of bands that the "A-train" has played with is long (like every other musician you know), and eclectic. Throughout the years the Latin rhythms like the Cha-Cha-Cha, Salsa, Merengue, Boogaloo, Bolero, Mariachi have remained a big part of his music but his love for the Blues, Funk, Jazz and Old School R&B round off his musicianship and his overall personality which some people describe as a hard cookie with a marshmallow center.Adrian is not without his moments of stupidity as evidenced by his 9 year leave of absence from his first love (music). When asked why he took such a long hiatus he responds “I thought it was what I needed to do at the time but then I realized that I wasn’t being I who I am and I decided to do something better with my exhale”. Thus he reinstituted himself into the world of music but it was no easy task; for music does not like to be ignored and she makes you pay when you come back, “I came back and played with a merengue band, I still have a recording of one the rehearsals, I was horrendous”, says the trumpeter. Garcia says he keeps the recording as a reminder how music can be both beauty and beast.Most recently Adrian has collaborated with hot Salsa phenomenon Luistio Rosario by writing the only original song, Ella No Es La Culpable, featured on his first self titled solo album. He has continued to compose and arrange despite his busy schedule as an entrepreneur, radio producer and host, community advocate, Associate Musical Director of Sonora Los Fantasticos and band leader of B-Sharp Latin Jazz Combo. This is how he got his nickname given to him by a colleague who playfully teased him about the various projects Adrian juggles stating “you’re like a train carrying all these projects and going places, I’m gonna call you the A-train”. The name stuck especially when his colleague began to say “nothing stops the A-train”.Adrian is also a freelance trumpet flugel horn player and his credits include playing for Dominic, Adalberto Santiago, Orquesta Ache, Grupo Balance. He also enjoys sitting in with D.C. & Company, and continues to maintain his chops by participating in the jam sessions at the Alley Kat and Christopher’s.When asked how he would describe himself as a musician he says “I am in a constant evolution of a work in progress”.
