Welcome to MySpace

About Me

I'm Stu and married to the beautiful Lynne and two great daughters,Abigail and Hannah. Looking to make some 'virtual' friends in the world of MySpace, from around the globe ...just love different cultures, languages (will have a go ..but not fluent in any..yet) and travel. Also getting to know other musicians and bands, etc...
Music is a real big part of me ...from creating, playing, listening, collecting and going to gigs (see blog)
Also play bass in a band called the 'One Night Band' ..which was a 'one-off' that kept going!!!....
as we're all leading busy lives, we're aiming just to do a handful of gigs a year for friends (birthdays/weddings etc) and charities/good causes, just for fun ...and food if available ;o)
The music is covers of rock/indie/pop/funk ...we raised nearly £1000 for MacMillan Nurses (a charity that specialise in cancer and palliative care)at a gig not to long ago, and played a 40th birthday in May, which was great.
Couple of other projects on the go on the drumming front, one is with some friends writing our own music which has indie/blues/funk/punk mix of influences ...only meeting occassionally ...and would soon if we could find our AWOL guitarist! Tim where are you!
The other is only just starting, which is prog rock based, exploring if we can also write something together ...but it must be age/time of life ..that we all have busy family/work lives ...so a challenge to fit dates in diaries ..ha..ha
*** HI THERE!! PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT BEFORE YOU GO ;o) - THANKS!! ***

My Interests

Mainly music orientated. Playing Drums, Bass, Keyboards, going to gigs

Things computer.... Dabbling in Web design, programming and high user of Micrsoft Office software (Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc)..sounds like 'geek' territory I know, but can be fun.lol

On the backburner/when time: Watercolour Painting, song writing and photography (this Page's background is one of mine that I shot during a flight to Italy late last year)

Like good food (..especially chinese, thai, indian, italian)...eating out or cooking it
and wine (usually red) or Guinness/Murphys..amongst others, also coffee...Mmmmm coffee ... and coffee related ..cake and other desserts ...yummm... ;o)

Going out to historic places, museums (especially the London ones like ..V&A, Science, Natural History)
Walking, cycling, cinema, going to the coast ...sunsets and rises are especially good times ..can't really lay on a beach for hours like some; thunderstorms; stars; travelling, especially flying (particularly like that bit where you leave a dull/wet day and shoot through the clouds into the sunshine); hot-air ballooning; gliding; abseiling; 10 pin bowling; meeting people from different countries - although find learning other languages very challenging, but it's good to have a go!! ...although can get into interesting territory with trying to translate on line..ha.ha

I'd like to meet:

All my friends ;o)

lotta 70s & 80s...some Jazz, Reggae, Blues, Gothic; Punk; Classical; House; Techno ..and just so much more!!! .... but depends on mood

Movies:

Mostly action / thriller / SciFi ...not really a horror fan though - did that in teens and does nothing for me now...most are slash and no plot

Fantasy Type: Lord of the Rings extended Trilogy

SciFi Type: Matrix; Star Wars & Star Trek; 5th Element; Bablyon 5; The Core; Day After Tomorrow; Contact...etc..

Marvel Type: (comics of youth, now in widescreen ...leave brain at counter when collecting popcorn... ha ha!) X-Men; Fantastic 4; Spiderman

Martial Arts: (Subtitles only - loathe dubbing) House of Flying Daggers; Hero; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,; Kill Bill ...undesided on 'Curse of the Golden Flower'

Others: Constant Gardner; Local Hero (mainly for music); Shawshank Redemption; Space Cowboys; Heat; Fugative; Finding Nemo; Ice Age; 300

Television:

It's finding time...and finding the gems...most seem to be 1/2 hour type rather than glued for an evening ...too many other great things to do!
But when I do it tends to be music progs - esp. Jools Holland and Buzzcocks
or
Comedies like Have I got News; Who's Line is it anyway; Scrubs;

In General: House (is current fave); Shark; Top Gear; Grey's Anatomy, Scrapheap Challenge is a family favorite along with Time Team...occassional West Wing and CSI (but there's just tooo many!!!)...also documentaries...about our world & space, or how things work / came about...history / nature ...caught most of Ewan McGregor And Charley Boorman - Long Way Round series, was great fun.

In the Past: Babylon 5, This Life, ThirtySomething

Books:

Again, It's getting the time....but when I do, like Dessert Island Discs ...I would have the Bible (has everything!) and Shakespeare

...followed by John Le Carre ...then JRR Tolkin, Tom Clancy; C.S.Lewis; Stephen Hawking, Philip Yancy;...also Shiela Davis; Alison Batler, Robert Heller, Que (Reseiman&Peasley)!! and of course Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, ha ha

Heroes:

Jesus, although a strange term to apply... not really any mortal heroes...but admire inspirational people, particularly those that strive to be the best at what they do or doing the best with what gifts/resources they've got, in all walks of life...:

Examples in the world of percussion that have helped me think and work harder for many years are drummers like: Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy
Of late: Gavin Harrison; Andy Edwards
