The body of Christ has been given a gift in Pastor John R. Thompson, Sr., a man of integrity and self discipline who has a deep respect and love for all humanity. Born on April 23, 1959 in Alberta, VA to Robert Sr. and Louise E. Thompson, he answered the call of salvation by giving his life to Christ at the young age of 15, on June 4th, 1974. The night of his baptism even the enemy showed up! Pastor Thompson was standing in the water waiting to be baptized, when the light fixture which hung over the pool was accidentally struck by the man of God as he motioned to speak before baptizing Pastor Thompson. This motion caused the entire light fixture to fall into the water while still plugged into the electrical socket. All watched the man of God reach down into the water, retrieve the light fixture, and place it back in its rightful position, while our Pastor stood in the water and without incident was then baptized in the name of Jesus.
Pastor Thompson serves as founder and Senior Pastor of Calvary Temple Christian Center Ministries, Inc. which is one of the most progressive and fastest growing ministries in the city since August of 1995. This multi racial, anointed church has increased in membership and on any given Sunday you will find the sanctuary, which seats 1000, filled. Pastor Thompson has also recently opened a new ministry in the city of Waterbury, CT named City of Expectation. Although new in the area "The City" has drawn many visitors from the area as well as travelers stopping through to hear the dynamic word being preached from a modest podium in the temporary residence at the Courtyard by Marriott. The ministry is supporting itself through the faithfulness of the excited new saints it has acquired.
Pastor Thompson along with his wife traveled to Rome Italy with the Joint College of African American Bishops where he received the 2nd certification for the Office of Bishop. The Joint College of African American Bishops had the awesome privilege of having the audience with Pope John Paul II at Vatican City. They were also special guests to the Vatican and were the dinner guests of Ambassador to the Vatican. This eight-day conference was where Pastor witnessed Rome like as unto the apostles. This same apostolic session is the goal and vision of our Pastor. His Apostolic Covering and Fathers in the Gospel are Bishop Noel Jones of City of Refuge in Las Angeles, CA. and Bishop T. Weeks of New Destiny Fellowship in Wilmington, DE.
Pastor Thompson’s local television and radio broadcast, which is Statewide, are noised about as one of the most watched and talked about in the state of CT!! Combined they reach thousands weekly. His annual “No More Drama Fellowship Conference” totals just under $50,000 in gifts and vouchers. Through the will of God this conference has facilitated such blessings as rent payments, credit card bills, cell phone payments, grocery vouchers, haircuts to single mothers with male children, utility payments and much more for anyone in attendance (the saved, unsaved, members and non members alike). Pastor Thompson is especially pleased to have given away 3 cars, paid in full, and a down payment on a 1st time homebuyers home through the No More Drama Fellowship Conference in 2006.
Pastor Thompson ministers to the churched and un-churched with very racey subjects such as: “How To Survive The Consequences Of Your Behavior”, “How To Live With A Mistake”, and who can forget “She’s No Longer A Threat” and “Women Under Construction” just to name a few.
Pastor Thompson's academics include four years of theological studies from New England Regional Theological Bible Institution and as he continues his education he is just a few credits away from a degree in Psychology. Pastor Thompson is the President of J. R. Thompson Ministries Inc., which has radio broadcasts in various cities throughout the United States, Pastor Thompson along with 1st Lady Thompson are the owners of a Real Estate Investment Company; Thompson Enterprise LLC.
Pastor Thompson is a family man. His wife, Co-Pastor Jenice R. Thompson has been saved for over 34 years. He is in love with her deeply and if you’re around him for just a few minutes, he will let you know it because he talks about her all the time. Together they have two sons, John R. Thompson, II and Justin R. Thompson. Pastor Thompson believes in a lifestyle of worship where your decisions and choices should worship the Lord. As he states over and over again you can live in the prophecy of your destiny and not in the character of your environment.
