Dj Digumsmak, the first hip-hop turntablist in Unified Culture, aquired his musical interest at a young age in "86". It was while skating back and forth to school, and at the surrounding parks that Digumsmak found a love for hip hop. Such artists as EPMD, Public Enemy, and Boogie Down Productions used to put him in the zone while skating. As time progressed, listening to regular hip-hop tapes lost its affect on Digumsmak and his skating. In "91" a skating buddy introduced him to a hip-hop mix tape. Digumsmak was amazed by the way that the dj would cut, blend and scratch his way through the entire tape.As hip-hop and his skating evolved, Digumsmak began to collect as much music as he could get his hands on. Realizing that hip-hop had become a part of his life, Digumsmak lived the life style until he graduated in "93. Later after graduation, Digumsmak joined the Air Force to serve his country and see the world. Even though the Air force was an environment with no individual culture, Digumsmak did not forget his hip-hop roots. His love for hip-hop music was embedded deep in heart, and nothing or no one would take that away from Digumsmak.After a couple years abroad, Digumsmak was stationed back in his hometown of Alamogordo NM. Upon returning, he soon rekindled his love for his high school sweetheart. Digumsmak witnessed a local dj by the name of Dj Slo-Motion do his thing on the decks. Always intrigued by his mix tapes, Digumsmak was now hooked on the whole concept of djing, However, recently married and baby on the way, Digumsmak had to put his hopes on the back burner. Not giving up on his dream, he saved every little bit he could until he would have enough money to purchase his own setup. Finally after years of saving, he purchased his first set of deck’s (Stanton straight arm’s) and an American Dj mixer. Beginning to practice as often as he could, Digumsmak soon got up on his skills. Learning to blend and beat juggle, he soon started to set up his equipment at a local basketball court in his neighborhood. Playing in front of whom ever was on the courts at the time, he began to learn the importance of good programming.Continuing to develop his skills Digumsmak soon picked up on scratching. With his newfound skills in spinning, he continued to play any and everywhere he could. Since Digumsmak has played weekly on the U.C. webcast further spreading his talent across the web. He continues to impress all with his turntable techniques. Recently joining the ranks of the U.C. Collective, Digumsmak can be witnessed at clubs Palmside and Legends in Alamogordo New Mexico alongside power 102's very own Marc X and dj cutmaster chil.
