About Me
King Jule is a vocalist/musician. A king from Geine ("pronounce "guyne",Nieuwegein), Utrecht, Holland who makes music based in hip hop.
Born in the seventies, he grew up in the eighties listening to hip hop from poorly recorded tapecassettes. First to the beatbox type of hip hop like skinny boys, mantronix, human dmx and ready rock c and later on to mc's such as big daddy kane, rakim and epmd. He became a follower of the native tongues type of newschool mellow jazzy vibe. People like a tribe called quest, brand nubian, pete rock and cl smooth and gangstarr made him conscious of what hip hop music should sound like.
Through sounds sampled by american mc's he got an interest in other music like funk, jazz and rock. This, combined with growing up with surinamese reggaepeople as well as the folky music from his father, made Jule move away from hip hop, exploring music in its broadest sense. He became part of the sort of crossover era where experienced singing in a grungy rockband called rite of passage and later on sang backing vocals for a moluccan rockband called motoa lei, where he also learned to play percussion. The timing of this role to play came perfectly since Jule was learning capoeira since 1998 where learned how to play the drum as well as other african instuments.
Finally Jule became aware of mama africa in all of his artforms and after a 4year-break returned to his musical base, hip hop, to complete his cypher and started to make music again. Through an open mic session called Rijmtijd in SJUhuis in Utrecht and the guidance of Master Surreal, a known mc/producer, he stepped in the musical arena to compete with nobody but himself, to take on the challenge to make that perfect souluplifting track to make asses move to a higher state of being. His first real try gave birth to streetstyle lessons. Hear and you shall see!
