Patricio Wang (CL/NL/FR)Santiago, Chili 1952.composer. guitar. electric guitar. electric bassguitar.Lives and works in Paris and Amsterdam.He studied composition, sonology and architecture at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago and composition and classical guitar at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague.He has been a member of various ensembles, among others BARROCO ANDINO, AMANKAY and HOKETUS (from 1979 until 1986). Since 1981 he has been a member, interpreter and composer/arranger of the chilean ensemble QUILAPAYUN in Paris. Today he is their musical director. With Quilapayún he has given concerts all over the world and received the Special Award of the Organization of American States (OAS) in 1994 in Washington and the Order of Gabriela Mistral from the democratic Chilean government at the Chilean embassy in Paris in 1995. He is a member of LOOS since 1992, touring in Europe, North and South America and member of the electric guitar quartet CATCH.As an interpreter of contemporary music (guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, mandoline, banjo, panflute) he colaborates regularly with different european ensembles: Ensemble Intercontemporain in France; Asko&Schoenberg Ensemble, Concertgebouw Orkest, Ebony Band, Radio Philharmonisch Orkest, Radio Kamer Orkest among others, in Holland; Ensemble Contrechamps in Switzerland, Ensemble Modern and Musik Fabrik in Germany, etc.He participates regularly in many premières of new music and modern operas like "Rosa" (Andriessen/Greenaway), "De Materie" (Andriessen/Wilson), "Writing to Vermeer" (Andriessen/Greenaway) , “The expedition” (Klas Torstensson), “Thieste” (Jan van Vlijmen).He was one of the electric guitar players in “Electric Guitar Now” during the Holland Festival 2003 giving premières of “Loopstate” by Huib Emmer for Loos and The Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Peter Eötvos and Steve Mackey”s “Dream House” for electric guitar quartet and orchestra and during the electric guitar event “Output Festival” in 2004.He composes music for both soloists and ensembles. Some of his work includes the opera a capella “Tragicomedia de don Cristóbal y doña Rosita”(’86) based on the play by F. García-Lorca, the opera "Pinocchio’ for 10 singers/actors and 7 musicians for the ROTheater (’95); the Dance-Opera "A taste of glamour" (’97) for 4 countertenors/dansers and 4 musicians; "Kleine Cantate" (’99) for female voice, 4 singers, string quartett and el.guitar; "Suite for Violeta" (2000) for Winanda del Sur; "Amor América" (2000) for 2 singers and a salsa band (Rumbatá);"2 Sisters"(2001) for 2 pianos and voice for the pianoduo ’Post&Mulder’commissioned by the Dutch Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst; “Proloog” voor het Rosa Ensemble (2002) “Rooms” for het LOOS Ensemble en de Dansgroep Kristina de Châtel (2002), “Canciones Salvajes” on poems by P. Neruda for soloist, choir and ensemble (2004) en “Camino del Agua” music for string orchestra for a performance by choreographers Feri de Geus and Noortje Bijvoets performed by the Netherlands Youth Strings Orchestra conducted by Johannes Leertouwer and young dancers from the cuban Escuela Nacional de Danza Moderna y Folclórica. (première june 2005)Since 1977 he has regularly been composing for film, dance and theater.His work has been recorded by many artists, among others: Quilapayún (Picap records, Spain, Warner Chile, Dom and EMI, France), Loos Ensemble (“Loos plays Patricio Wang.
