About Me

SPEAK (Students Promoting Engagement through Activism and Knowledge) is planning Georgia State University's first Take Back the Night rally. I've created this profile to help publicize the event. I also want to provide a space where people can find support services and raise awareness. Please feel free to access any of the links on this page. This is a safe space for people to participate and speak out.“Take Back the Night” began as a demonstration against the violence women have experienced while walking in public at night; “Night” has grown to symbolize a general fear of violence that includes domestic abuse, rape, sexual assault, assault because of sexual orientation, incest, and sexual abuse.“Take Back the Night” (also known as “Reclaim the Night”) has become an internationally held event (usually a rally and/or march) to protest against rape, and other forms of violence against women. Our “Take Back the Night” rally will give women the opportunity to speak out as survivors, to speak for victims, and raise awareness among women and men at Georgia State University.“The unifying theme…is the assertion that all human beings have the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if violated.” (TakeBacktheNight.org)

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Georgia State University students who wish to "Take Back the Night" on our campus and anyone who supports TBTN. I also encourage GSU students that attend the rally to sing, yell, read a poem, or request a moment of silence for a victim. Let your voice be heard! Here is a slideshow of Take Back the Night 2007 at Georgia State University:
