* Jurek Szurek and the Kriegsminsters is a Polish experimental / anti-music / low-fi band, founded in 2007.
In 2002 Jurek Szurek started to write surrealistic poems which he would recite at his school from time to time. But he often felt the desire to put music to his poems to reach a broader audience. But since he'd never touched an instrument this never happened.
In 2007 Jurek saw the psychobilly / goth band The Kriegsminsters preform at the Polish night club ????. It later turned out that the band members all went to same school as Jurek, and that they were looking for a new singer since the old one, Igor Gradenko was arrested and got 5 years in prison for illegal possession of high-explosives.
Radomir Votja, the guitarist had heard Jurek recite his poems a couple of times and tried to persuade him to join the band as a singer, and to let the band use his poems as lyrics. This was exactly what Jurek had been waiting for ever since he first started writing. Jurek joined the band in January 2007 as their new singer.
And so the band now know as Jurek Szurek and the Kriegsminsters was founded.
It should be noted that Jurek writes his lyrics in English, Polish, German & Swedish. This is probably due to the fact that his father was a professor in European language and also a language teacher at Uniwersytet Jagiellonski W Krakowie.
The band is currently looking for a label to aid the release of their debut album, The Kriegsminster Sessions.
