Beginning in the mid 80's, Where's the Pope? were a pioneering hardcore punk/thrash band from Adelaide, South Australia known for their energetic and chaotic live performances, and also for bringing a USA type sound to the South Australian punk scene. Together for around 18 years they released four albums, successfully toured the eastern states on numerous occasions, supported international acts and played at two Big Days Out, including a main stage performance in front of thousands of loyal and new fans. The popularity of Where's the Pope? led to increased acceptance of punk/hardcore bands into mainstream venues throughout Adelaide. Although WTP? went through many lineup changes they maintained an intensely loyal following among the skating and surfing crews, and southern and coastal areas of Australia. WTP? also featured on numerous skate/bmx videos and were a staple on the popular Volatile Visions bmx vids. The line up for their final show was:Frank: vocals Rob: bass Tocs: drums Alex: guitar The band split just after releasing their final album/CD entitled PSI, released on Resist Records. Their final show was at the Holdfast Hotel in Glenelg and due to an overwhelming turn out two more shows were scheduled to accommodate all the fans.Where's the Pope? reunited in January 2005 for a show at Enigma Bar in Adelaide, selling out within an hour of the doors opening. Another wildly successful reunion occurred in 2006, but it now appears that (sadly) the boots have been hung up on the WTP? madness.1-2 Punch
