Redlettermusic1.com is now online. This site was designed as an easier way for bands and labels to hook up. Having a son in an indie band I personally know the challenges and obstacles bands face today. In all reality it is a far different business than it was when I was growing up. Record labels doors were wide open in the 60's hoping to find bands that would make the same impact and generate the same income as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and the list goes on. But as time went on and people brought lawsuits against the major record labels those doors slammed shut. I believe things really took a turn for the worse in the 80's with the invention of the cd. I'm not saying it wasn't a great thing because it is. Let's face it I had an 8 track player in my car for years. But it also ushered in the digital age. The 90's saw the internet, again a great step forward in technology but also the beginning of the major labels problems with piracy on the internet. It benefited some people since they didn't have to pay for the music that was written by the artists and contracted by the industry. Some of you may not agree with this opinion but labels have lost millions of dollars through this and so have the artists that fans love. Lets face it until a perfect way comes to eliminate the online piracy labels and music itself will be in some type of trouble. With Redlettermusic1.com I am hoping to save labels money through saving time with demos and press kits flooding their offices and save bands money from sending press kits that may never be heard. Let's face it, 1 good looking press kit can cost at least $10.00 if a 8x10 glossy is included. I know I've sent them out and have tried a cheaper way to do it. There are E Press Kits but many labels do not accept them. On redlettermusic1.com you can be listed for less than the price of a press kit, get labels exposure, and fan exposure and also have the chance to build a larger fan base and sell some merchandise. The internet has been here for nearly two decades now. The need for sending these packages in the mail and a label opening them and going through the ritual of listening, not liking what they hear and throwing it in the trash is even greater now than it was in the past. Not a great investment for the band and you know many of you don't have that kind of money to just throw away. I know I invested time and money into redlettermusic1.com mainly because of my sons experiences but also because I've been disabled since 2002 and have racked my brain for an easier and better way to help bands out. Also I'm not gonna get rich off this because once a label finds you I'm out of the picture as it should be. This is something that will keep me occupied and give me a sense of accomplishment. So talk it over with your bandmates or your mate or just talk to yourself, heck I do it and see if this is for you. I would ask if your band does not have great sounding recordings don't waste your money, it won't get you anywhere. What I am looking for are bands and artists who are truly dedicated to making this their career. Thanks for reading my ramblings.
