About Me

Alex was born 1982 in Essex and took up the guitar at the age of eight. He began by imitating the blues and rock guitar greats. At nine he started playing classical guitar and achieved grade nine of the Victoria college syllabus. At Sixteen Alex took to playing jazz on the instrument and enjoyed music by Thelonius Monk and Joe Pass. Alex went on to study jazz at university and gained a BA in music with first class honours. He also specialised further in an Mmus Masters degree in Jazz Performance. Currently Alex is working with some of the best performers of the London Jazz scene including Dan Banks band, Dave o’ Brien of Porpoise Corpus, Anthony Strong, Martin Speake, Mick Hutton and Gareth Lumbers. Alex has had regular tuition from John Parricelli who played the mandolin in the film soundtrack to ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’. In the duo setting, Alex and Dan play a variety of jazz standards throwing in a helping of jobim composed latin style bossa Nova’s. The pair also feature some bebop and show style tunes. In the quartet setting Alex can play an array of styles including bebop, swing, latin and funk with the option of switching bass and piano for sax and Hammond organ. Alex has also done a session for Sony to make a new advert for their new walkman.
