I am born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and lived there until I was 15 years old before moving to Vancouver, Canada in 1981. I also lived in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for 3 years (1975-1978) and even though I was young it left an incredible long-lasting impression on me due to its extreme culture and Islam beliefs. This is where I really started questioning religion and belief systems in general. Even though the Netherlands is extremely secular..it still had much of its Christian roots ofcourse even though the Netherlands is currently about 65% atheist which I think is a good thing.
Moving to Canada was really another strange move for me besides the fact that many people seemed so strangely repressed and secretive...and besides..
it was very strange hearing some young people talk about loving god and jesus and all that. This was so bizarre to me as I never met anyone religious at my age in the Netherlands. No one ever even mentioned the word god back home. So the absolutism that comes along with most religion and the lack of evidence for their absolute claims made me become even more skeptical about religion and makes me now a total non-believer with always the open mind to be changed by true evidence of some deity...... so far there is absolutely non at all and therefore I rest my case....... I am probably seen as too opiniated yet am compassionate even though I sometimes come across the opposite due to my bluntness. I believe that silence about important issues is far worse then being totally outspoken about them. One is always going to offend another group with opinions but it still is the only way change is going to happen. Most human rights issues have been overturned by protests and being vocal about them. Forget about political correctness....I'm all for free speech except hate speech.......besides that: I am a self-admitted "music snob", Sociologist, Vegetarian, for Animal Liberation, Ending Animal Suffering, Protesting Animal Abuse and Torture, "Male-Feminist", Supporter of sustainable planning/neighborhoods and lifestyle,Anti-Sprawl/Suburbia, Pro Gender-Equality, Pro-Gay Rights, Pro-Choice, Pro-legalizing soft-drugs..(I don't do any recreational drugs and never have but I rather see those legal as compared to alcohol which is far worse) Pro-Safe Injection Sites,( check out the stats in Holland and Switzerland peeps),Pro-Sex-Education and against the moronic Abstinence-before-marriage-movement ( It doesn't work whatsoever, just look at the stats between Secular Northern-Europe versus Christian USA...Just for the record:THE US has the worst stats of teenage pregnancy, STD, homicides,homeless, children in poverty in all of the industrialized nations people..its a disgrace...lets look at the facts here! Secular Holland,Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the likes have the best records in all of the lifestyle stats...get your heads out of the clouds people...the US is a nation of haves and have-nots with the top 2/3% having most of the wealth.
