About Me

My name is Brett, and I joined the "over 40 club" this year. I love music - all kinds. I play guitar a little and write a little, and I really would like to make music a bigger part of my life this year. I particularly like traditional folk music. I am usually busy, between work and my family. My wife’s name is Neeley and she is a wonderful artist. I have four children who are sometimes wonderful... Hillary is 17, Emma is 12, Bennett is 8, and Lillie 7. I ’m always looking for people to play music with, so if you live near North East, MD, give me a holler. I’m always looking for a chess game and I hold occasional Texas hold-em tournaments at the house. I also like to talk about ideas and philosophy, and I like to meet people who are different than I am. I have a couple of my songs on here. I taped them on an old tape recorder, and my brother turned them into digital files, so the sound quality isn’t the greatest. I’m saving up to record them for real. Anywy, let me know what you think. I also put some of my poetry in my blog section. I’d love to hear anything you wanted to say about them as well. I come from a conservative, Christian, farm family background, and I definitely prefer rural to urban. I do enjoy talking to people with different ideas than myself. So many people, it seems are convinced they are right. I tend to be open to new ideas and therefore I probably don’t fare well as a debater because I can be swayed. This may be a weakness, but I prefer it to having a closed mind._______________________________________________________ ____________________GENERAL INTERESTS: Music, family, breaking bread with friends, chess, gardening, reading, learning, old John Deere tractors ____________________________________________________________ _______________ MUSIC INTERESTS: Folk, singer/songwriter, acoustic, jazz, classical, rock and roll, ____________________________________________________________ _______________ MOVIE INTERESTS: old movies, Humphrey Bogart, (to have and have not, the left hand of god) Gregory Peck, (cape fear, to kill a mockingbird, big country) Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Betty Davis, Katherine Hepburn ... ____________________________________________________________ _______________ BOOKS: Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, Tale of Two Cities, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Count of Monte Cristo, Jane Eyre, The Fountainhead, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, anything by Isaac Asimov...

My Chaos

Ashamed, abashed, but yet I must admitPast times I wished my life would change it’s pace,And all were quiet, each was in it’s place. The chaos, the cacophony would quit. And so my days be ne...

Mom’s Deadline

In darkness I awake and hear her sigh.’Tis long since chimes have struck the change of day,And only now she tucks herself away,As if to, in a subtle way, defyHer human self on which she must rel...

not the man I am (lyrics)
