It all started when Ronel (guitar) started seeking musicians without any success to form the band he always dreamed of. Mamo (bass) was in the same music school he was, and proposed him his vision of making an indie rock band, a very uncommon music genre among local bands. He liked the idea, but didn't have much time available and Ronel was a pain in the ass, so he wasn't very motivated at first.
Mamo and David (drums) used to play together in another band (Republica Ganja) until this one split up, and having nothing to lose, they gave Ronel a chance and learned Franz Ferdinand's song ''Take Me Out'' as their first cover. Ronel's Funk/Rock playing style was unique and the band was ready to rock. Mika (guitar), studied in the same school as David and Mamo (Lycee Francais de Saint-Domingue), and David always knew he was a big indie and indie rock fan, we proposed him to come rehearse with us once, and we realized he was just what this band needed to be completed. Now the band was really set, all we needed at this time was a name.
One day in the studio, after thinking about names for..quite a while..such as The Napoleons and Platano, the name The Buddhas came to our head, and that's when David, who was wearing a t-shirt with a body and this quotation on it: ''for good luck Buddha says , rub my belly'', proposed Buddha's Belly as our name. We knew there was something special about it, and that's how the band was born!
